Stole this from a couple of places on the f-list.

01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
I snack while I do anything. >_> Heh, actually, that's not true. But I never just eat, so yeah, I've eaten and read at the same time. I don't always eat when I read, though. I do usually have a cup of coffee nearby.

And while we're talking about books, lets play the favorites game. What's your favorite book is an easy question, but answering it honestly is damn hard. Favorites change every other day, don't they? I do have favorites, though. My favorite book is still Needful Things by Stephen King. Not because I think it's the best book ever written, or without fault, but because it made a huge impact on me when I read it, and because I still admire the ease with which King manages to build a whole community and develop a whole town full of different characters without making it seem too constructed or forced.

This would actually be a tie with Hamlet, but since Hamlet is a play, Needful Things wins. Hah hah, I think I just made every literary critic in the world shiver by putting Shakespeare and King on the same level.

So, f-list, what about you? What's your honest answer to the favorites question? Do you have one at all?

It's 7:30 am and I am SO AWAKE OMG. I spent all night writing a website for a uni assignment. I shouldn't have that much fun writing a website for people I don't know about a topic that doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'm a geek. *pushes glasses up nose*

Just me rambling about nothing in particular. )

ANYWAY. Have a meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] theformofstars.

Comment with one of my characters and one of yours, and I'll write a letter from mine to yours (preferably one I'm at least vaguely familiar with).

My characters are all on my profile, except [livejournal.com profile] prince_arthur from Merlin, who I've never really played, but would be willing to write letters for, and [livejournal.com profile] liams_choice, my OCs Ray and Cliff, who aren't really fully formed characters yet. I could probably manage a letter, though.

First three commenters will (probably) get a response.

Interview Meme--now with 100% more tl;dr

teyla: Cartoon Ten typing on top of the TARDIS like Snoopy. ([dw] ten snoopy)
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me!"
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And thus the endless cycle of the meme goes on and on and on and on ...

[livejournal.com profile] mind_the_tardis interviewed me and asked the following questions:

1. What's the best thing about real life, to you? Where/when does it come closest to living up to its potential?

Two occasions: travel and fangirl meet-ups. )

2. If you were handed a fobwatch and told that you should open it, dammit, 'cause you are a Time Lord and awesome and burning at the heart of the universe and have phenomenal cosmic powers and oncome like a storm and etcetera, would you open it? Even if you didn't know what kind of person you'd be after? (Hey, you might end up the Master. Or Runcible.)

I'd open it in a heartbeat. No question.

3. What's your favorite book and why?

That's a hard question. )

4. If you somehow don't manage to grow up to be RTD, what else would you settle for doing?

Cry and sniffle and tell everyone that my life is meaningless. )

5. Bad television. Why watch it? (New LtM this evening! \o/)

I KNOW, I'M GONNA WATCH IT AS SOON AS I'M DONE WITH THIS MEME. )

Meme and Prompts

1) Comment to this and I will give you 3 people. (If you want me to.)
2) Provide pictures and the names of those 3 people.
3) Label which you would marry, shag, and throw off a cliff.
4) Post this meme with your answers.

[livejournal.com profile] wihluta gave me Sam Tyler, James Wilson, and Ray Kowalski.

Pretty men. )

Also, I'm taking prompts. I really want to write about my OC, but since most of you don't know him, fandom prompts are cool, too. Or you can drop me a line on AIM and I can tell you ALL ABOUT RAY THE OC. Ahem.

Anyway. Prompts! Hit me with anything you'd like to read--I'm sort of craving a really cliché H/C plot, so if you have any good ideas in that area, be sure to let me know. Or anything else! Fandom doesn't matter, either--I should have heard of it, but if I haven't, well, then... I probably won't write your prompt. Eh. ;)

I can't guarantee that I'll write anything for your prompt. But I will give it a try!

Fret and despair, for I have decided to do the WIP meme.

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have. No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!

Under the cut, you will find: House, House/DW, House/X-Files, Life on Mars, Life on Mars Gangster AU, Due South, Doctor Who and original fiction.

May I just say, you have a lot of WIPs, sir. )

DID I MENTION THAT I HAVE TROUBLE FINISHING STUFF? All of these WIPs come up to a word count of roughly 113,300 words. That's 3,650 words per WIP.

Time to delete the House stuff y/n?

Oh, any questions--ask away. It's why I numbered them. Maybe talking about the fic will get me started again.

It's another love meme. >_>

Okay, guys, so why did none of you tell me about Being Human?

I admit, [livejournal.com profile] lf2871 did. *bows to her in thanks* But all you other guys? How does fandom miss a show like that? A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost, playing roomies, with slashy vampire/werewolf undertones and awesome OT3 potential? Was I living under a rock, or did actually nobody talk about this show at all?

A few screenshots. They say more than words. )

This show is cuteness incarnated. And the vampire is hot. The werewolf is Midshipman Newbie from Voyage of the Damned, and I was very surprised that he can actually act. Must have had a bad day when they shot VotD. Anyway, the pilot is definitely worth checking out. I will let you know what I think of the rest as soon as I've seen it.

ETA: I just had a peek at the actual show--because this is the pilot--and they replaced both the actress of the ghost and the vampire. ;_; Don't do things like that. I was already shipping that first vampire with the werewolf.

And I've been tagged for this question meme thingie. )

So, I'm in South England, and as the whole world already knows, IT SNOWED HERE OMG.

Two centimeters. That's not quite an inch. These scary amounts of frozen water made everything stop. Uni, people, everything.

Let's start at the beginning. I got up at 7am, because I had a class scheduled for 9am. The internet worked for exactly long enough to let me find out that nope, uni won't be canceled today. (Monday was snow day. Tuesday had more snow, but it was not a snow day. Idgi either.) Then the internet died, and I trudged into uni, only to find out that, yeah, no, even though it's not a snow day, people decided not to come in anyway.

Alright, whatever. I didn't go back home, because other than the internet at the residences, uni internet is not weather dependent. I hung out at uni till 5pm, spending most of that time writing a completely tl;dr backstory on my Ten pup. Then they kicked me out. Apparently, when it snows, everything has to close at 5pm. So I went back home, and since there was no fog or snow or anything, I was hoping that maybe the internet might be working.

It wasn't. This was pissing me off. I hadn't had proper internet all weekend. Monday night, when my internet was working, my RP partner's internet wasn't. I have about three or four different 'verses that I want to pursue, and I didn't get a warning that I wouldn't have proper internet for the next four or five days, so I couldn't get used to the idea. Now, her internet was working, but mine wasn't. I decided to watch a movie, and the DVD died half-way through.

At that point, I was just completely frustrated, so I went and bought some wine and popcorn, emptied the bottle within less than an hour, and went to bed. (Is this where I admit to having a problem? It was less that I didn't have the internet. It was more that I didn't get a warning. It's easier to deal with no internet when you get a warning.)

Anyway. The internet's back now! Let's see how long it'll stay that way. Meme in the meantime! Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] choukoumei.

Name the first 10 fandoms that come into your mind. Your flist is supposed to write which character from those fandoms you're most alike according to them. It's about the character you're most alike, not the one you like the most!

01) Doctor Who
02) Life on Mars
03) House
04) Star Trek
05) Merlin
06) Buffy
07) Due South
08) Sherlock Holmes
09) The X-Files
10) Spaced

If you don't know the show, you can skip it, obviously. :)

Christmas Cards! And a meme.

teyla: Animated icon of the TARDIS spinning through space. ([dw] TARDIS animated)
I got a ton of Christmas cards this year. Most of them I got when I got home from London, and a couple arrived since. I've not thanked anyone yet, so I will do that now: thank you to [livejournal.com profile] lf2871, [livejournal.com profile] inlaterdays, [livejournal.com profile] svanderslice, [livejournal.com profile] tli, [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen, [livejournal.com profile] hibernia1, [livejournal.com profile] chaoskir, [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose and [livejournal.com profile] recrudescence for your cards and, in some cases, presents. You're all way too lovely. *hugs all around*

If I left someone out, please give me a hard kick. Or, you know, ask if your card arrived already, and if I answer with a sheepish 'uh, er, yes', then give me a hard kick. ;)

The internet is deader than a dead thing. Why is no-one around to entertain me? I might actually have to, you know, write fanfic or something. >_> Well, before I go and actually end up doing that, I will do that icon meme everybody's been doing.

Icon meme! )

And [livejournal.com profile] choukoumei, welcome to the f-list! If you want to ask anything at all, go ahead. If you want on the role play filter - which is the only filter I use - let me know. If you want to get out of here while you still can, DO SO NOW OR ABANDON ALL HOPE! D:

Meme, Christmas

teyla: Cartoon Ten typing on top of the TARDIS like Snoopy. ([dw] screw presents)
I've wanted to do a voice post meme to make you guys tell me if I sound more British than last time, but answering the same questions all over again seems a little boring.

So, if you want, ask me anything you want to know about me in the comments, and as soon as I've got a couple of questions, I'll answer them in a voice post. (And please, do ask anything you want. I'm not very shy about stuff, and if I really don't want to answer something, I just, you know, won't. ;))

God, I need to get started on the whole Christmas thing. I've not written any cards, nor have I bought any presents yet. Sigh. Anyone who left their address in my post, your card will probably be late. On the other hand, if anyone still wants to leave their address, you can totally still do so here. (Hah hah, did I say something about 'doing this early' this year in that post? Hah hah, fail.)

Seriously, the best thing about Christmas is without doubt the Christmas special. The rest? Meh. I can never think of stuff I want people to give me, and then I spend loads of money on buying presents and get loads of stuff in return that I don't really need. I don't particularly hate Christmas, it's just... I don't really get what's so awesome about it. Ah well. Christmas special! I am definitely looking forward to that. :D

Fandom Appreciation Times

teyla: Cartoon Ten typing on top of the TARDIS like Snoopy. ([actors] fregg)
In a couple of hours, I'll be getting on a bus to go to Cardiff and meet [livejournal.com profile] lf2871.

I met [livejournal.com profile] lf2871 first when she commented on one of my journal entries about Life on Mars a little more than half a year ago. I didn't know her, and it stayed like that for quite a while, because she's kind of a shy person. (She'll probably hate me for writing this entry.) However, at some point we ended up adding each other on MSN, and by now we more or less talk daily. She's a lovely person; smart, creative and kind, and she's just one more reason fandom is worth every moment of anger and heartbreak it's brought me.

She's not the only one; there are so many more. [livejournal.com profile] wihluta ♥, of course, and I could go on, but if I were to start a list, I'd never be able to stop, because I wouldn't want to leave out any one of you. So what I'm going to do instead is this: I'm going to link you to the Fandom Appreciation Meme that [livejournal.com profile] cryptictac is hosting on her journal: Put your name down here and link your friends to your thread, so they can tell you how you've made an impact in their lives.

Please do put your name down. I want to tell you what I love about you. :)

Oh David. You make me all fuzzy with fangirl love. (THAT SOUNDED NAUGHTY. I honestly don't mean it that way, at least not this time around. It's just - the man, he's so adorable, you know?)

No really. )

*clears throat* On things that are not David... I've got nothing let's have memes!

33 things you never wanted to know about me. )

And this one, because it's a cool one.

What has surprised you the most about me (if anything) since joining my flist/friending me? Was anything completely unexpected or have I always fit the picture of me you have in your head?

Now, I will go forth and seek out food.

Non-Nano post

teyla: Animated icon of the TARDIS spinning through space. ([dw] TARDIS animated)
I said I wouldn't be talking about Nano all the time... and okay, I hope I really won't for all of November, but I gotta do this little dance and tell you guys that I've written fucking seven thousand four hundred and seventy three words over the last three days. And while they do need a lot of work - in my last bit, there are several paragraphs describing the Doctor walking down a corridor; what the fuck, brain? - they're not entirely bad. Writing hasn't been as easy in a long while. I don't know how long this will last, but I am enjoying myself enormously at the moment.

The other reason I'm talking about Nano is that I didn't do anything else all week-end, lol. Except acquire and watch Four episodes. Crazy Doctor is crazy, I'm loving it.

Can I just say again how much I adore Doctor Who? It's ridiculous how much I love this show, in any and all of its incarnations.

Ooh, and I started reading RTD's book. Worth every pound, as far as I can tell so far. ♥

And here's a meme that I snatched from friendsfriends, because I thought it was funny:

You just saw me in the back of a police car. What was I arrested for?

 THE ANONYMOUS FEEDBACK MEME

Hit me. I know I haven't posted anything in a while, but, er. Maybe some of you guys remember something that always bugged you about my writing? Or something like that. I would love to get some crit, good or bad, because I never really know how good or bad I am. I go through phases thinking I'm moast awesome, and then I get times when I cringe at everything I come up with. I guess it's the same with all of you guys, but then, that's what this meme is for, right?

/babbling

I posted my first Nano bit! 2,188 words; I'm so very proud. And no, I won't be exclusively talking about Nano this next month, lol. I'm just mentioning it again because I found out via IM that apparently a couple of people missed my last post about the Nano filter. Again, if you want to be on the filter, please comment and let me know. And now I will stop with the shameless self-pimp.

I acquired the s4 DW soundtrack today. ♥♥♥ It's as awesome as the s3 one. I positively adore Murray Gold.

And apparently, there's a new trailer for the Xmas special. If you've seen it, please don't talk to me about it - I am trying to stay spoiler-free. But if you want to watch it, the [livejournal.com profile] doctorwho post is here.

I miss DW. Xmas needs to come FASTER.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] wheatear, because for once, I actually have an interesting book lying close by.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
6. Tag five other people to do the same.

The nearest book is Walk This Way, an autobiography of Aerosmith released around 1999. The bit I'm quoting is Steven Tyler talking about Woodstock in the early 70s.
It felt very mystical. There were lots of people selling pipes, sandals and mescaline in these little booths. One guy was selling Tuinals and polished stones. He had a big homemade banner of a demon smoking a pipe, which I thought was so incredibly cool that I stole it while this guy was watching the Band or the Who one night.

The next day we ran out of money, and this guy had a big bag of Tuinals, so we went to his booth and Ray Tabano punched this guy out, grabbed his Tuinals, and we ran back up Groovy Way. Then someone stole our gas cap, and of course it rained and water got in the gas, so we were stranded. We couldn't leave if we wanted to.

The whole book is like that. It just makes you marvel, lol. It's a nice read, even though I am not entirely convinced of its authenticity. ;)

If you want to do the meme, consider yourself tagged. I gotta go and clean now before [livejournal.com profile] tli shows up!

Ahaha I found the most awesome link on [livejournal.com profile] rose_cat's journal.

Halrloprillalar's Drabble-matic

You get an interface where you enter two characters and various nouns and verbs and adjectives and whatnot, and then the site generates a ficlet from these. (NOT a drabble. Drabble = fic with 100 words. When will people ever learn?)

Anyway, it's highly amusing. I generated two ficlets about my not-so-secret Doctor Who OTP - Ten/TARDIS.

#1) ... in which the Doctor finally finds someone to share his life with. His life, and his elephant.
A Console In Time )

#2) ... which should totally be the plot basis for the next Christmas Special. It contains drunk!Doctor and a square TARDIS. And index fingers.
I'm Dreaming Of An Indifferent Christmas )

And a small fannish survey I stealded from [livejournal.com profile] bzzinglikeneon:
