Random post-deadline ramble

Handed in my FMP yesterday. I think it's good. I think it's possibly the best of the course this year. But fuck am I glad it's done with. I have two more written things to complete till Tuesday, and a Q&A session to attend on Wednesday, and then I'm done with uni. Huh.

I will get around to filling at least a couple of the prompts you guys left me the other day. I've just been really crazily busy. I haven't even gotten around yet to watching Exile.

Here's a cute interview with David and Catherine about Much Ado. It's got a cute picture, too. I also just bought this. Someone tell me to stop spending money.

Speaking of money, I just remembered that the fundraising people I worked for a while ago still owe me my holiday pay. I will have to chase them down. Will also have to chase down a couple of FMP people for money. Why is it that you always have to chase people down if you want money from them? Stupid question, I know, but still. It gets tiresome.

This is a very random post. It needs more pictures. This is the first thing you get from Google images if you type in "random". Anyone know what it is? I have no clue.

ETA: Oh. I think it's primes. Is it primes?

Dear A.,

there are so many things that are wrong with you; if I were to list them all, I'd be here all week. So I'm just going to point out the few things that you keep doing that make me want to take a hit out on you.

I've not even started to cover all the things I'd like you to change about who you are, but these are the basics, and these are the things that are sabotaging what could have been a fun project. Please take them into consideration next time you feel like being a dick, and don't be a dick.

No love,

Today, we officially scrapped pretentious-art-guy's script, on our tutors' recommendation. Hah. Thank you, universe, for the ego boost.

I've also been watching Castle. I really enjoyed the first season. I'm mostly through the second one now, and feel that the show has kind of slipped into the same-old, same-old routine of all procedural cop shows. It's still decent, though. And I want to write kinky humiliation Beckett/Castle PWPs. (How hot is Stana Katic? I think she's the only aspect I remember in a positive way about Quantum of Solace.)

Apparently, David Tennant's gonna be a dad. D'awwwwww. I know, I know, paparazzi photos, I shouldn't be linking you. But. Baby! :D

Blah blah baby blah. )

. . . I'm gossiping celeb gossip on my journal. I assure you, it's all in the name of procrastination. I'm supposed to be writing an essay on how New Who and Torchwood connect to and express the global age. I will write it. In a moment.

I don't have too many new things to tell you. I'm busy with uni, trying to figure out how to write the script for my final project, writing essays . . . oh, I got a job. It's a door-to-door fundraising job, lol. I'll find out how long I'll be keeping that job, considering that I'm really bad at any sort of sales pitching or convincing people to give me their money. But I'll get a few shifts out of it, at least, which means that I will be making at least some money soon.

Oh, right, I've also knitted some socks. Knitting socks = not as hard as it looks. Actually, it's ridiculously easy and quick, if you have YouTube tutorials you can follow. I've finished a pair for myself, and am now knitting a second one. Just because I can.

It's also looking more and more likely that I'll be getting married this summer. Probably in Boston. Probably in July or August. I'll keep you guys updated.

. . . random entry is random. I'll be going back to writing my essay now. Feel free to distract me by telling me about how your life's going at the moment. :D?

To do list. :|

  • make PowerPoint for Tuesday's presentation about cultural imperialism.
  • make other group members send me notes about their presentation parts and review them. (How do you get to Year 3 without knowing what cultural imperialism is? Fuck's sake.)
  • finish final project script till Wednesday.
  • do stuff for my two studio classes. Not sure what stuff. Find out what stuff.
  • write and send out Christmas cards. (If you want one, leave your address here.)
  • type up a metric fuckton of tags, both RP related ones as well as mun journal tags.
  • go over emails from lawyers and email them back.
  • stop procrastinating. STOP. PROCRASTINATING.

Is there anyone on my f-list who has one of those brains that don't switch into non-thinking procrastination mode whenever stuff piles up that needs doing? If so, I'd like to rent your brain for two or three days. Please to be emailing me a quote.

In other news, I saw Harry Potter last night. Wasn't bad. I hope they'll spend the entire next movie on Dumbledore/Grindelwald. My HP OTP. :3

I need a new fandom. Come on, guys, there's gotta be something out there. Doctor Who, well, I was never really into the fandom, and now that the show's started sucking, I don't really feel like hanging around. (Entirely subjective, that statement, of course.) But I miss sharing fannish glee and following fandom comms and, well. Just the entire fandom experience. Any recommendations?

I'm supposed to be writing a script. So of course, I'm filling out a meme instead.

Seventeen opinions on Doctor Who. Stolen from hobbit_feets. )

I'm . . . alright? Busy. Senior year is busy. I did a week of work experience with a local independent TV company last week, and am deciding that I really would love to work in this business. It's silly. You spend your days trawling the internet trying to find ways of acquiring a sawn-off shotgun for cheap, and everyone takes it dead seriously. Because dammit, that shotgun is the most important prop in that reconstruction, and it might actually be in focus for ten seconds. So it's gotta be a good one. But we have no budget, so try to get it for free. It's awesome.

Happy Halloween! Not that I celebrate Halloween, but I suppose a few people on the f-list probably do? If not, just, you know. Happy 31st of October. How is everyone?

Thank you for mansplaining that to me.

Today, I spent my morning shooting a two minute drama piece with a team of two other girls, and two actresses. Meaning we had a set entirely populated by members of the female population. We were shooting in the uni cafeteria, a pretty public place, and occasionally, people were walking past behind us.

It's around 12:30 pm, I'm setting up a shot, and am trying to frame it so I can get rid of a shadow I don't like. My sound operator waves to me--turn around, there's someone behind you. I turn around and find myself face to face with a shortish blond skinny dude.

This conversation followed. )

By that point, my co-director and I just glared at him, and I think he finally got the message that his input was neither needed nor wanted, because he buggered off and left us alone. I have no idea what he was trying to do. I think he probably just saw a bunch of women handling filming equipment and figured that he'd play white knight and mansplain to us how to do it right. Whatever he was doing, I'm not sure whether I should be annoyed or amazed at him.

Usually it's fine, but from time to time, working with cameras and filming equipment, you realize how much the business still thinks it's entirely a male area. You've got boobs and you're holding a camera. Something's not right here.

Other than that, the shoot went well, though. Now all we have to do is edit it and hand it in! Win.

So I was supposed to be filming today, but then the BBC extended a shoot and one of my actors pulled out at the last moment. FUN. At least this means a free Saturday. I'll hopefully be filming tomorrow instead--not with the BBC actor, though. We'll have to make do with a different one. If she gets back to us and lets us know whether she has time.

Of course, now my entire crew is whining at me. BUT TOMORROW IS VALENTINE'S DAY. So? You'll still have the evening. Besides, Valentine's Day is a stupid, petty holiday anyway. It's not like it's Christmas.

In totally unrelated news, I really, really want to try playing one of my muses in a comm again. Preferably human!Ten, but I'll try anyone. I played in Taxonomites, which didn't work out, and then tried Ars Arcanum, which died before it properly started. I would probably want to mod the comm, though. I set one up once, but I don't think the person I set it up with is interested in doing it anymore. I might just go ahead and do it by myself. BECAUSE I TOTALLY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TO DO ANYWAY.

I have to sit down and write today. I need to finish my Haiti fic, and I need to finish a 10 page script by Monday. Especially now that I won't have time to do this tomorrow. Sigh.

I would really not have a problem with it being March 24 now.

Long Entry is Long

I kind of fail at posting lately, don't I? I've been twittering a lot; apparently I have finally unlocked the Secret of Twitter. It's kind of like being in a big chatroom with a bunch of people where nobody is really talking to one another, except when they are. Um. That made so much sense. Anyway, yeah. If you have a Twitter account and I'm not following you, let me know. If you want to follow me, I'm t_eyla over there same as on LJ.

My new uni trimester has started. Actually, it started last Monday already, but since I only have three classes a week, we haven't really done too much yet. My classes this term are Fiction Production, Producing TV and Studio Production. The latter two are my electives--they were both second choice, since my two first choices (Creating a Sitcom and Writing a Short Film) didn't run. But I'm still enjoying them quite a lot.

Uni babble. )

Good heavens, look at that wall of text. I surely have a lot to say on the topic of my uni classes, don't I? Granted, there's not much else going on. Went out with a couple of people the other night, and actually enjoyed myself. Maybe I should do this more often. And I've been reading Storm Front (1st Harry Dresden novel) for weeks now, but somehow that book is not managing to captivate me at all. I read a couple of pages and then put it down to do something else. I don't actively dislike it, I just find it very unsurprising and bland. Do the books get a little more daring later on?

In regards to fandom, um. Nothing going on there. Except [profile] dontwanttogo, the Doctor Who rewatch project. We've only watched one episode so far, but I'm enjoying it. It's something to look forward to every week, and it's a chance for me to talk a lot about the Doctor. I love talking about the Doctor. In case you didn't know that.

Oh, and the drama that is going on with [community profile] house_cuddy is ridiculous. I do have to say, if I were a bit more knowledgeable about all the intrinsic relationships going on there, I'd report it on f_w, because that mod is behaving in an absolutely absurd way, and I would love to see him mocked and laughed out of fandom. Well. I'm sure even if I don't, someone else will. It's such a classic case of a megalomaniac asshat mod getting butthurt and going on a murder deletion spree, f_w's not gonna miss out. And all this even though I was never even a member of that comm. The ship doesn't matter, though--asshattery on the internet is asshattery on the internet, no matter if it's sailing a het ship or steering a slash steamboat. (Look at all those pretty alliteration. :3)

Last but not least, I actually enjoyed 5x12 of SPN. It wasn't too offensive (not any more than any other show on television), and the funny actually won over the embarrassing and trainwrecky. I'm impressed. I do miss Castiel, though. He's probably off going through the heavenly filing cabinets and looking for God's cell phone number. Damn the man, he never checks his voice mail.

Okay, this is a very long entry now. I think I'll cut it off here before it gets any longer. What's up, f-list?

Three Points and Mango

First of all--the auction at help_haiti is closing today, midday eastern time, so if you still want to bid on me, here's the thread. (One fic between 500 and 1,000 words for a prompt and pairing of your choice. Starting bid was $10; so far, there's been one bid of $10.)

Second of all, sorry for dropping off the face of LJ so suddenly. Scary enormous amounts of uni work were keeping me busy. The snow fucked with the filming and production schedules of our assignments, so I had to finish two pretty major filming assignments and a 2,500 word essay within about a week. BUT I GOT IT ALL DONE. I handed in the three assignments today at 2:30, and can now go back to being a lazy student with nothing to do aside from fucking around on the intertubes.

Which brings me to point three--DOCTOR WHO REWATCH. If you're still interested in participating, go to dontwanttogo and join now! It would also be good to watch the community for updates, because I won't be linking each update on my journal here. So, go forth and join dontwanttogo!

Fourth of all, mango is tasty. Om nom nom.

I've finished writing all my Christmas cards! 17 cards, going to eight different countries. I love having friends all over the world. :3 Will be sending them off tomorrow, and hopefully they'll arrive on time.

Tomorrow's my last day of uni before the winter break. Saturday, I need to do some Christmas shopping, and on Sunday, I'm meeting [livejournal.com profile] tli and [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen. Monday I need to clean the flat, and Tuesday I'm flying to Germany to see the parents. And the kitten! I am very much looking forward to meeting the kitten. And the family, of course.

I've spent the last couple of hours storyboarding. That means taking a film or TV script and drawing all the shots you want to use to cover the dialog and the action. I wish I had a better sense of perspective, or the money to employ a professional storyboard drawing person--whichever, really. I'm supposed to draw a from-above shot looking down at our two protagonists, and I have no idea how to go about that. *pokes storyboard*

There was a lot of HP wank linked on f_w lately, which compelled me to pick up those books again. I've never done a complete re-read of all seven novels since Deathly Hallows came out. I think I shall be attempting to do one now. I'm about one quarter of the way through the first novel so far--and I'd forgotten how cute and awesome Dumbledore was in my head before movie Dumbledore came along and made the character boring. In my head, Dumbledore is this awesome ageless dude who dresses in swishy purple robes that are always a little dusty, and wears high-heeled cowboy boots with silver buckles. Also, he's constantly chewing on something, and has a ton of crow's feet wrinkles. Basically, he's a skinny John Wayne with a British accent. Who likes to wear purple robes.

And McGonagall was young. Nothing against Maggie Smith, she's awesome, but in my head, McGonagall was maybe 35, if that. Young, and absolutely kick-ass, and all the men are dying to get into her pants, but she has no time for that kind of nonsense, thank you very much. Think Claudia Black, with her hair in a tight bun, wearing inornate green robes and turning everyone into a gnat who dares to stare at her chest for a moment too long.

Oh well. I suppose my head works differently than everybody else's, at least where Harry Potter is concerned. I shall go back to storyboarding now. Sigh.

I've Got A Jar Of Dirt

Hiiii everyone. I still haven't written the fic that I owe you. I KNOW I FAIL. I'm sorry. But of course, this won't keep me from being a meme sheep.

I should write more stuff. I haven't written anything proper in forever. Oh well, I will again at some point.

I watched White Collar! How awesome is that show? It seriously hits all my kinks like someone going over a checklist. Look at the shininess that is one of the promo pics.

Blatant slash under the cut. )

There is also a kink meme, [livejournal.com profile] collarkink. Just reading the unfilled prompts had me shifting in my chair, and not because I was uncomfortable. I haven't written anything yet, but I definitely might. Neal/Peter/Elizabeth ftw. I don't think my interest will go much further than the shiny slash and the threesome and pegging opportunities, though. It's a neat show, but it's not that neat.

In other news . . . I'll probably have to watch Life on Mars US. I want to write my essay for my Contemporary British TV unit about a British program that was adapted by another culture, how the two programs ended up being different, and what made the original uniquely British. Which means I get to deconstruct Life on Mars US piece by piece and can even sound smart while I'm doing it. Win. Downside is, I'll have to actually watch it first.

I have nothing of interest to say. I have to finish two uni projects until the eleventh, which means I'm kind of flailing and busy while not being busy at all, if that makes sense. And I'm flying to Germany to see the parents on the 15th.

I'm not being very interesting in this post. But there was a nice picture and a link to a kink meme; I hope that made up for it. And here's Captain Jack Sparrow being a spazz.

Campy pirate under the cut. )

Strange ongoings are going on.

Blah blah about RP. )

ANYWAY. I know I owe people fic, and I will write it. I suck so much, I didn't even manage to write my parents the email that I owe them. My excuse is that I spent Saturday on the Isle of Wight, getting soaked. Oh, and filming ghosts. But mostly getting soaked. SO MUCH RAIN OMG. We're probably going to go back next Saturday to get some more shots. We're supposed to have a rough cut of this project by Dec 11. So much for no more deadlines until Christmas. >_>

I would be really okay with it being Dec 21st now. There's Stuff going on, and it's been going on for a while, and most people on the f-list probably know what I'm talking about and all my being cryptic is totally pointless, but the Stuff can't get properly figured out until the 21st, and I've been waiting for LIKE TWO MONTHS for it to be the 21st. So, 21st now. Please. (And ahaha what, cryptic paragraph is cryptic. I'm sorry. It's Good Stuff, so don't worry. But I don't want to talk about it on here yet SO HOW ABOUT I JUST DON'T AND SHUT UP NOW JEEZ WOMAN IT'S NOT THAT HARD.)

There were more things I wanted to talk about. What was it? Christmas is coming up and I totally don't really have the money to buy anybody any presents. I really hate this part about Christmas, this "here is a list of people you need to give presents to" thing. I would totally and honestly go with not getting any presents at all if it meant I wouldn't have to give people stuff. Not because I'm a cheapskate, but because I always flail and don't know what to get. And it keeps you from giving people stuff during the rest of the year. I like giving people stuff, but with the year having Designated Present Giving Days, you can never just give people stuff whenever you feel like it. It's mid-June and you've got this awesome idea, but nope, you gotta wait until Christmas, by which time the awesome idea doesn't seem so awesome anymore, or the product's out of stock, or whatever. If you even remember what it was you thought of.

Other than that, I like Christmas, though. I'm not a Christmas hater. I just don't like the presents part.

OH RIGHT I WATCHED THE X-MEN MOVIES! They're horrible. The first one put me to sleep; it had the worst fight choreography ever. The second one had plot holes through which you could have flown a whole armada of spaceships, and the third one--idk, actually, I think I liked the third one best. Which probably makes me the only person on the planet who liked the third one best, but idk. It had the most perks. It was still horrible.

In which I talk more about the X-men movies. Also, spoilers. )

I also watched Quantum of Solace, which was alright. Daniel Craig's Bond is a dick, but I think that's true to the character. I want more gadgets, though. Pierce Brosnan always had all those shiny gadgets. Invisible car! Daniel Craig's Bond needs an invisible car.

AND NOW I WILL STOP TALKING AND GO TO BED. I don't know where all of that came from. I was really just gonna talk about my Cas muse. Oh, well. How is everyone?

So I'm supposed to be getting a replacement for my broken insulin pump sent to my parents' place by the end of the week. I'm looking forward to seeing whether that's actually going to happen. >_>

I spent the afternoon editing my two-minute-documentary. Editing is not something you want to do in a team. Or at least it's not something I want to do with a team. Imagine wanting to draw a picture, but having to tell someone else where to place the pencil and draw the lines. MADDENINGLY FRUSTRATING. >:(

The documentary's looking good though, I think.

[livejournal.com profile] wihluta spent the last couple of days here at my place, and we cooked Ethiopian food (om nom) and potato gratin (om nom) and made microwave chocolate cake (om nom) and had Ben & Jerry's ice cream (om nom). We also watched some Eastwick, which I hated (most sexist show ever, ugh), and some Eleventh Hour (US), which was worse than a J. J. Abrams show. And we watched some Northern Exposure, which was cute and adorable. (Although annoying after two episodes. Idk, the main character gets under my skin if I watch more than two episodes of that show.)

Other than that, I'm trying to come up with an extra 100 GBP so I can pay for a flight to the East Coast next March. There's a super-cheap flight offer on Opodo, but I don't quite have the money right now, and the availability is dropping every day. This constant jet-setting on no budget at all is getting a teeny bit exhausting. :/

So how is everyone else doing?

Wednesday Night Ramble

I just made pancakes. I had no eggs, so I had to make them without eggs, and the recipe put a ridiculously tiny amount of sugar into them, so I fixed that, and also, I threw some cocoa in there to make them more chocolate-y, and somehow, I managed to get some chili in there as well, so they were a lot more spicy than pancakes usually are.

Remember how I was vidding The Noose? Well, I still am, but I decided to take a break and vid The Kill instead. It's a Dresden Dolls song, and ever since I heard it, I wanted to do something with it, because it's awesome. I'm kind of compiling a 3-minute-long watch-Ten-be-a-goof clipshow, and it is depressing the fuck out of me. TEN. Don't go. :( (Insert obligatory comment about how it's good that he's leaving now, because I don't want Moffat to get his hands on the character, etc etc. Still, the tenth Doctor era ending, it's like the ending of the best vacation of your life. You know it has to end, and you know if you were to drag it out, it could only get worse, not better, but still, you REALLY REALLY DO NOT WANT IT TO END.)

Blah blah blah random things about neighbors and fanfic and uni. )

The flatmate's boyfriend woke up sick on Monday. The doctor told him he might have swine flu. Now the flatmate's sick, and as of a couple of days ago, I'm sniffling and feeling kind of deflated. Damn you, flatmate's boyfriend.

I don't know what this is, but I took the precaution of canceling the trip to Brighton I was planning for Saturday--I was going to meet [livejournal.com profile] tli for her birthday, but I don't really want to give her the plague, so I called her and we decided to reschedule--and I'm going to hide in my room over the weekend. Not that I don't do that every weekend, but this weekend, I've actually got a reason. Damn. I'd've liked to go to Brighton; I really like that town. Oh well, next time. Anyway, Murphy's Law states that now that I've canceled the trip, this is going to turn out to be nothing more than a slight case of fresher's flu, and I do quite prefer fresher's flu to swine flu, so there's an upside to the whole thing.

First week of uni finished about half an hour ago, and I think I'm going to enjoy this first period until Christmas. I've got three units, Contemporary British TV, Videography and Factual Production.

In which I ramble on about my classes. )

That's uni until Christmas, then. It's quite a lot of work, but it's interesting work, so I'm not complaining. And I've only got about 10-13 hours of lessons a week, so there should be enough time to get stuff done. Hah hah, beginning-of-the-year enthusiasm. Well, I'll see how long it'll last.
