OVERALL WORD COUNT: ~54,000
My best story of this year:
The Whitney Street Mystery. It had plot and character development and stuff happening and all.
My favourite story of this year:
Um. Either Whitney Street, or Redemption Song.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
ALL OF THEM OF COURSE. Lol, no. Hm, maybe Redemption Song. I loved building Nelson's character, and most commenters only told me, wow, this worked despite the fact that it wasn't Gene/Sam! Not that I didn't appreciate those comments, but I was a little like, BUT WHAT ABOUT MY SHINY CHARACTER THAR?
Most fun story to write:
The porn. Namely Chances and the two Merlin ficlets. PWP is always fun when it works out.
Sexiest story:
Lots of people really liked the erotic asphyxiation Merlin ficlet. Myself... hm. I can't really pick. I remember really liking the way the sex in Fitting Pieces worked out.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Maybe the Doctor/Master PWP kink ficlet. It's only a moment, so the whole ficlet would count.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Trust. IT'S A HIGH SCHOOL AU FFS! That's just not right. :/
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
All of them. Every story is a bit of new character fanon, and it changes the way I see the characters, even if it's only a tiny little shift.
Hardest story to write:
Ten to Midnight. Mostly because I wrote it during the night before the deadline while suffering a strong inability to just sit down and write.
Biggest Disappointment:
Disappointments don't get finished and therefore are not on this list. I've got a cartload on the hard drive, though. xD
Biggest Surprise:
Chances, I guess. I wrote a character that I had never seen on TV!
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Trust, again. I am secretly totally addicted to emo teenager high school AU fic. As long as it involves baby Time Lords.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I didn't really predict or expect any specific amount. I wrote less than I would have liked, or rather, I finished less. But I always do, so that's no surprise. *eyes huge WIP folder*
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2008?
Life on Mars, Gene/Sam and Gene/Nelson, but only because I hadn't seen LoM yet in Jan '08. Same goes for Merlin/Arthur, and Theta/Koschei insofar that I didn't know enough about old Who canon to know they existed. Other than that... maybe Spike/Ten/Simm!Master?
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Lots of porn this year. I feel very comfortable with porn now, while I still struggled with it when I was writing Fitting Pieces. The biggest challenge for me was probably making myself finish The Whitney Street Mystery, and what I learned from that was that if I put my mind to it, I can write pretty awesome plot fic.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Write more pretty awesome plot fic, finish some of my WIPs, finish the nano fic I started, maybe write some original fic. Just, keep writing, you know?
I'd like to thank the academy:
Licia deserves hugs and cuddles. I recruited her as my beta sometime in early '08, and she is the best beta ever. Her comments can make me laugh and then claw at my eyes in desperation both at the same time, and they always improve the fic. And then I'd like to thank everyone who listens to me ramble about my fic, who reads my WIPs, who reads my fic and comments and enjoys it and generally, I'm giving hugs to all of fandom, because you guys rock and are awesome and never cease to inspire me.
