Physics Woes

I've been studying physics, because I've got an exam tomorrow at 6.30pm (weirdest time ever for an exam y/y?). I love physics, but this...

I've got a page of formulas lying next to me. Stuff like v=lambda*f, and q=n*e. Very, very basic stuff. The sort of stuff that you happily forgot in grade ten the minute they told you you were allowed to use a formulary from now on.

I'm not saying those formulas are hard to memorize. They aren't. But if you have ten or twenty of these little three-letter-combinations memorized, it's very easy to get confused. And that, dear uni, is why God gave us formularies. C'mon, I was allowed to use one in school! I thought uni was supposed to be more about understanding things and getting to the bottom of them than school.

I myself don't call making people memorize twenty three-letter-combinations 'getting to the bottom of things'.

The joke is - if you haven't understood what you're doing, you can't use a formulary. You won't know what to look up. I know this from experience. It's perfectly possible to flunk a physics exam even with a formulary.

Next thing they won't allow calculators anymore, and will give us a list of angles and their sinus values to memorize. I really wouldn't be surprised.

Looking for a scene

I've been playing with the idea of making a vid - yeah. Again. I know. ;P - and of course, the very first clip I want to use is one that I cannot for the life of me remember where I saw it.

I'm not sure whether it's even in one of the episodes, or whether it's a deleted scene, or an outtake.

It's Ten, in the TARDIS, hopping around the control console like a madman. I don't know if he's singing, but he might just as well be ;). Does this ring a bell with anyone? I remember having seen it somewhere, but only very dimly. There is a very slight chance my mind is making it up.

ETA: Mystery has been solved by the awesome [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose. Thank you!

And here's the fast forwarded part of Ten's recorded message to Martha in Human Nature/Family of Blood )

WTF, LJ?

Have you seen this?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'm going with laughing at the moment. If you log out and click on a flagged entry, you get one of those idiotic Are you 18 years y/n? pages. Meaning any minor user would only have to log out to see any entry they want to see. Or, you know, if they had their birthday date up and can't change that anymore now (and isn't that a laugh: if you're a minor, you can't change your birthday date anymore. What if I was being disorganized when I registered and accidentally hit 1996 instead of 1986? *headdesk*), they can simply create a new journal.

Things that worry me about this:
- you can flag other people's entries. NOT a good idea in prone-to-drama-llama fandom.
- who decides what's adult content? Do I go with the American system that allows minors to see extreme violence but doesn't permit them to view content where two people have consenting, normal standard sex? Or do I go with my own judgement? Is a picture of David Tennant wearing nothing but a police hat adult content?
- what the fusk are fandom people doing using this flagging system? Haven't you all loved being able to read porn on the internet as a minor without anybody being able to stop you?
- what exactly happens if I refuse to flag my entries? Can I un-flag entries that have been flagged by other users? If not, who is there that can I yell at about LJ giving other users the right to decide about how things are handled in my journal?

All in all, major fail, LJ. This option is useless, and the only thing that will come of it is a lot of wank.
