I was actually talking about people who enjoy being caned.

I watched the original series, and TNG. But, lost interest in DS9. I love the movies, but I get irked by the inconsistencies. The fandom for ST is probably huger than anything, and I can only imagine how hard it is for the writers to keep track of all their arcs and plotlines. I don't think I'd want to write fanfic for ST, although I probably could.

I have read some of the novels, but only a few of the authors seem to be able to maintain the flow that the show offers. Peter David is good.

I was into TOS, and the new series, ENT. Never liked DS9 much, either. And I could never really warm to the characters of TNG, or VOY, for that matter.

ST fandom is enormous. Especially TOS, what with it being the first fandom to discover slash ;). I used to write ENT fic - I actually wrote my first fanfic in ENT. There's some really terrible stuff among my ENT fanfiction. But hey, everybody started out at some point, didn't they ;). I'm sure at some point in the future I'll want to hide my House fanfic.

It's been I think at least seven years since I read the last Star Trek novel. I went into fanfiction instead ^^. Peter David rings a bell, though. Didn't he write all those Q novels?
I remember I liked Diane Duane, and L. A. Graf, not because she was such a great writer, but because she wrote about Sulu, Checkov and Uhura, who were sort of my OTP back then ;). And Margaret Wander Bonanno or how that woman is spelled. Her books were pretty amazing, too. I later stumbled over a fanfic writer named Greywolf the Wanderer. I'm pretty sure they were the same person ^^.

okay confession, I heart Q. I am a shameful Q fangirl.

Oh, Q fic is the most hilarious thing ever. Q/Picard is very common. Or Q/Janeway. I am guilty of having written a Q fic myself - together with my long-time Enterprise co-writer Sita Z. It's more or less crack!fic, and I died from laughter while writing it.

Q rocks my sock drawer wide open. He so does.

I can see Q ewith Janeway. Patrick Stewart is too manly.

Although...did you see that episode of Frasier where he played the gay guy?

No, I don't think I did.

I think Patrick Steward can be a lot of things. He's a good actor. Picard - the character - might not be very comfortable with admitting that he's gay. On the other hand, this is so-and-so many years in the future. Homosexuality is probably more or less fully accepted in Picard's time.

well, remember that TNG episode with the androgenous race? That was an interesting look at gender identity in the future. I think there will still be problems with these things no matter how far we come. Because people are always going to hate. (unfortunately)

I haven't seen the TNG ep, because I haven't watched a lot of TNG (as I said, it never was one of my favorite series).

However, the Star Trek verse is a very optimistic place. Even if prejudices against homosexuality were still present in some people's minds, I think the status of gay people would be a lot like the status of women nowadays: equal rights are the politically correct rights, in some areas the goal has been surpassed and women have more advantages than men, the differences between men and women that exist as a hard fact are being ignored or labelled prejudice, but on the other hand the mindset of a lot of people is still in the 18th century.

And! Patrick Steward playing gay is just hilariously fantastic. There's this movie 'Jeffrey' where he plays a gay interior decorator. You've GOT to watch it someday. :-)

I think Patrick Stewart makes a delicious gay man.
