Actually Stranded Now
Ahahaha you guys were all right. I am stuck in the US. My flight was canceled, and the next one I can get leaves on the 21st. Not that I am particularly heartbroken about that. But it's sort of inconvenient, since my term starts on the 19th. Oh well. Right now, I'll be catching a bus back down to DC.
But I'm fine, just had a wasted trip to NYC. Which I had already paid for, so I'm not losing any money either. Also, a few more days with

Wow! This vulcano has big effects all around the world.
I hope you can join your terms without any problems! And YAY for a few more days in the US.

Putting my teacher hat on, have you let yours know that you won't be back for the first couple of day, and why not? Often if a student doesn't show up on the first day, we assume that we won't be seeing that person, and if they trickle in later we kind of assume they're a huge slacker. And often group projects and so forth are assigned in those first couple of days. I'd send them an email--and be sure to explain that you had planned to be back several days in advance of the start of the semester.
(There is nothing more guaranteed to tick off a college instructor--here in the US, at least--than hearing from a student, "Oh, I missed the first week of class because I was on vacation, ha ha! Did I miss anything? Smiley!" Child: the reason travel is so much cheaper when term-time has just started is because *normal, responsible people* will be back by then! There's nearly always at least one each semester, and they are always *shocked and hurt* to discover that they will be held responsible for what they missed (I blame the "educational trip" policies that many k-12 schools have--they have to excuse you for missing class if your parents can make the case that your trip to, you know, Disney world or whatever is actually educationally beneficial, and then when these snowflakes get to college they think "but my parents already paid for the tickets" is excused absence kryptonite. But I digress. I have no idea if it works the same way overseas, so maybe this isn't a problem there--but still, giving them a heads-up, and establishing clearly that you are not one of those people who thinks your vacation plans are more important than your education, can't hurt.)

Btw, I got your email, and being the big failure that I am, haven't replied--but I had a lot of fun last weekend, too! It was nice meeting you again, and thanks for coming down all the way from Philly. It was a lot of fun. :) Oh, and I will definitely take scarf pictures as soon as I get home, and post them.
