I got on my bus at 7:15 am. About five minutes after we left, the bus broke down. Now I'm sitting here somewhere in DC, waiting for another bus to show up.

It's about 8 am now, and I've got a flight to catch. I don't really want to leave the US, but I don't want to have to pay for a new flight ticket, either.

Sigh.

ETA: The new bus came! Now waiting for it to finally leave. We're an hour behind schedule; I should be fine. I scheduled with a lot of leeway, time-wise.

Did she get home? Probably not; from what I heard Germany shut down all airports, at least all the bigger international ones. I hope she's okay!

My flight was canceled. I has an extended vacation! A bit inconvenient, since I have a lot of uni work to do, but a lot of that I can luckily do online--question is whether or not I'll actually do it. >_>

Mum is stuck in Istanbul, since all flights into Germany are off. And now her prepaid card is empty and I can't call her... urgh.

Aw, Istanbul. :/ That sort of sucks. Do you think she can maybe get a bus or a train back to Germany? I know someone from uni who's stuck in Romania, and she's going back to England by car/train/bus.

She's made it to Barcelona by plane. Now she needs to find a train home. I am waiting for a call atm, to know if she is stuck in Barcelona for now or on the way tonight... ARGH!

Pfft, this is all vaguely absurd.

Earlier, I tried to contact the online travel agency I booked my Munich/London flight with. The email on their website is broken and doesn't take messages, so I tried the service hotline. It's a German number, and Jasper's phone doesn't do international calls, so I tried Skype. Apparently, when you call from the internet, it doesn't count as an international call, so the automated voice told me to call the German service hotline. Once I did, I actually managed to get through to a person, but then they were like "I cannot understand you! Please call back." *hangs up*

Oh well. I have now emailed my mom and asked her to call them for me. I also tried calling the BA hotline directly, but they have a six-hours-on-hold queue. >_>

Maybe you'll still, get a few more days - they were saying they expect the shutdown to continue Saturday, and possibly longer than that depending on wind direction. Although I guess it might still work out with the flight, the radio was only talking about outbound flights, I don't know what's going on with the incoming ones.

As far as I can tell it depends on the direction they're coming from. If she's coming from the North, chances are bad, if South it looks better...

Flights from the US usually go along the Earth's curve across Greenland, so, yeah, I'm coming from the North. But your mom isn't--are they actually letting flights from the South into the country?

It does! Apparently, all the big airports in Western Europe are closed--Paris, Heathrow, Munich, Frankfurt; none of them are letting anyone land on their runways. Smart, probably, considering the volcano ash apparently likes to randomly shut down airplane engines in mid-flight. >_>
