Results Part 1 Year 2

Just got my results for period 1 of this year. I took three units, Factual Production, Videography and Contemporary British Television.

Factual Production was two assignments--a two-minute documentary, and an eight-minute documentary. The first we did on a Big Issue vendor, and the second one we did on ghost stories of the Isle of Wight. (That was the one that got horribly delayed and compromised by snow issues.) We got 58% on the two-minute and 53% on the eight-minute. The first isn't surprising, since we didn't put all that much effort into it. The second one, while not surprising, is a little disappointing, since the low-ish quality was mostly caused by things that weren't our fault. (Snow, interviewees canceling, etc.) It still made for an overall mark of 55%, which at least isn't a Third. (Yep, this is the weird British grading system that I don't really get myself, but best is a First, then there's a Higher Second, a Lower Second, and a Third. 55% is a Lower Second.)

Videography, three assignments (one camera test, one 1,000 word essay and one short 3-minute narrative film), turned out a lot better than expected. The camera test got 87% (It wasn't hard.), the essay got 64% (It was . . . odd. It was me going BLAH BLAH BLAH about lighting and camera. I felt very silly doing it, but apparently I did it right.), and the narrative got an unexpected 60%. The script was pretty good, but we shot it in one day and sort of cobbled it together, because we ran out of time. But hey, someone in the grading committee must've liked it. This made for an overall grade of 64%, which is a Higher Second.

Contemporary British Television was two assignments as well--one presentation, and one 2,500 words essay. I did the first on Queer as Folk and representation of LGBT people in British television, and the essay was about the representation of women in British TV. I got 66% on both, which I'm satisfied enough with. That's a Higher Second, for anyone who was wondering. ;)

This makes an overall of 62%, which is a Higher Second. I'm quite alright with that; it's what I got in my first year. My first year marks won't count, but this year makes up 30% of my final degree grade, which means that this first period makes up 15% of that. (Lol complicated.) Anyway, yeah. Quite happy with that, all things considered.

Hey, that's great! I must admit I fail to understand the fine details of the grading and the percentages, but I got the overall message that you did well! Yay! Go, you!

Also, always happy when you're happy & ♥!

. . . All of those 55% and 60% and what-not make my American-grading system mind go NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

But it sounds like they're okay in the UK >_> Seriously, I would get grades back over there and have a heart attack.

I might actually find that kind of liberating. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MY GRADE IS. WOO.
