If I had three wishes...
A few days ago,
bzzinglikeneon posted two pictures of David Tennant and John Simm, and ever since I've seen them, I can't get this thought out of my head that I want to see the two of them in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

So David would be Jesus, and John would be Judas. The musical would start with John all on his own, brooding, singing about how he's starting to have doubts about this missionDavid Jesus is so obsessed with, and that he's worried they might be heading for a disaster.
Later on, we would see Judas before the high council of Jerusalem, desperate and torn, not knowing what is right and wrong anymore, accepting the pieces of silver in the end because it's the only thing he feels he can do to make things turn out for the best.
Then we would witness the confrontation during the last supper, Judas breaking down and losing his temper. Things would escalate in the garden of Gethsemane and later on in the palace of Pilatus, and then we'd get John being Judas, desperate and broken because he has betrayed the man he loved and admired for the last decade, finally committing suicide and ending up as the man who will stand as the symbol for all the sin and terror in the world for thousands of years to come.
I so want to see this production. Want want want. So badly.

Also, I think Jesus is much more human and fragile and angry in JCS, which (esp drawing from his performance in "Life On Mars") I think John would capture with way more subtlety than most.
Have you seen the modern movie version of JCS? It's got some horrible bits (like Judas' singing) but I like it because it's more on edge than the 70's version. There's a sense of abject bitterness, and oh man the Final Supper scene... so angry! I like the feeling of "you left me no choice, and I'm really not happy about it" that I get from Judas, and I think David has that down pat.
But yeah. Kidnap them and hold them hostage until they obey.

John, on the other hand, doesn't seem like the righteous anger type, nor the melodramatic sort of emo type you'd need for the role of Jesus. He's more the type to shout only when he's shouted at first, bottling up his anger and seething in private until all the hateful emotions drive him to do something like Judas' betrayal. And I think his emo would be an ugly sort of emo, not the fire-and-explosions-in-the-background kind, but more the kind that's almost too painful and brutal to watch.
I must admit that I've never seen any version of JCS. I have the very first, original edition of October 1970 on CD, and I know it by heart xD. I never had the chance to see it live, and I've never really wanted to watch the movie(s). I'd love to see it performed on stage someday, though.
Hah, if I had the two of them kidnapped and held hostage in my basement, I don't know if I could let them go again xD. But maybe if they promised to accept the positions in the cast...
