Wankiest post ever y/y? And the whole fandom's like, oh dear, did you have a bad day, you poor thing? Here, have a cuppa, things will look much better in the morning!

It's so liberating, especially when you've just left the House fandom where a post like this would have produced a wank that would have reverberated to fandom_wank, stupid_free and every other wank community out there.

Jesus. I want *that* fandom.

You can have it! We have pretty guys, cartloads of subtext, some boy kissing, and a lot of wonderful fanfic and art - het, slash, gen, anything you want. We also have continuity and some really good writing. And the actors involved have awesome canon like having worked as cage dancers when they were young and needed the money, and they have full frontal nudity pics posted at their fan gallery sites!

It's a great show. I'm more into the older series, but the new ones are totally fun, and I love reading the Dr. Who-related posts on my flist. I should probably plug in and talk about it more with other fans, but that would require *involvement*, and OMGWTF I IS GUN SHY AND SKEERT.

I'm more into the older series
There are a lot of Classic Who people in DW fandom. I haven't seen much of Classic Who yet, and I'm so busy fangirling David Tennant that I never get around to acquiring the eps, but I'm firmly planning to do so. Old British shows are just too much fun to miss out on ;).

You don't have to get involved. You could just stalk the comms. That's what I do, lol xD. Well, I post the occasional piece of fanwork, too, but I don't really get involved in discussions. Except with the people on my f-list, because those I know. Still a bit shy, lol, since I've only been in the fandom, like, two months.

I find it very reassuring, though, that the DW crowd seems so extremely laid back. It goes a long way to making me feel more comfortable.

I will take your advice, then, my dear Who-fan, and wade slowly into the Dr. Who fandom by STALKING IT. :D

Also, if you ever happen need some older episode recs, I be here. :)

I'm actually determined to work my way from the first ep to the last, provided they still exist and I can get my hands on them. I have watched the fifth Doctor episodes because I loved Time Crash so much, and am now working on getting the first Doctor episodes.

I'll see how determined I am about this once I have them and have started watching them xD.

Have you watched any of the Third Doctor? Is he awesomeness and laser sparks?

I've seen Three in several episodes, and yes, he's awesome. Four is my favorite, but Three is a very close second--if only for the cars, lol. He's campy and snooty and reminds me somewhat of Hugh Laurie, except he wears frills and velvet.

DW fandom seems to have a lot less wank than a lot of the fandoms I've been in. I don't know if it's to do with a certain level of intellect or what, but most people seem more interested in discussion than argument.

I almost never comment at that community, but I just had to say something today. ;)

Hee, yes, I was trying to keep my mouth shut, too, but I didn't quite manage.

I'm just really amazed that there are fandoms out there that can handle trolls like that guy with grace. Okay, there's Due South fandom, but I always thought that one's the exception to the rule.

The thing is, if that person had been a little less holier-than-thou, that could have been a really interesting discussion. What a pity.

I get the impression that a lot of the members of this fandom are really thick-skinned, and thus not quite as prone to taking everything personally. Trolls have a tough time getting a rise out of us. :D This makes me seriously happy. Fandom gets a cookie today.

Well, being pissy is okay from time to time. As long as you don't make a habit of it (or, you know, make a completely pointless aggressive post bashing every character except your favorite one in a completely unnecessary way and then tell everybody you only did it to enlighten them about how dumb they actually are).

Haha, well, I didn't get the explosion I was expecting. This new fandom is going to keep me constantly off-balance! I CAN play nice - it's just remembering what the expectations are in any given place online, which can be tricky.

(Hell, I once joined a very closely moderated family-friendly ADD board after spending most of my online time not just on lj, but on Fandom_Wank. I don't have any issue with how clean and supportive the mods on the ADD board have to keep things; but until I adjusted, I think I nearly got myself banned. Too used to !LOAD THE SNARK CANNONS!)

Well it never bothered me much, personally - it's mostly lulz-worthy. And I guess I'm not "leaving," unless the damn show never comes back or something(!)

But you're probably right about a lot of the House fen leaving because they can't stand the wank anymore...I hadn't really considered it from that perspective, and I've certainly seen people on my list say something to that effect.

And I'm not leaving, either, I'm just not an active member anymore. I'm one of the people who was annoyed by the wank - because while I do enjoy reading it and loling about it, I enjoy more a fandom where you can start a discussion without people jumping down your throat at the first mention of criticism.

And the House Hall of Fame. That pissed me off big time every time I saw it mentioned.

Yeah, I've joined it when I came into the fandom because I wanted to know if it's worth following. I don't mind having it on my f-list, so I haven't taken it off. I'm not really a very active member, though.

That guy was just completely random. Maybe he really only wanted to troll? But he flounced so quickly, I don't think that was it...

It's awesome \o/. I feel so very comfortable with the Who crowd. This is the first wank I've witnessed at all, and you can't even really call it wank. It's very reassuring.
