OMFG! RL people noticed me!

I'm registered at a site which is a community for German students, with profile pages and everything. You can also join discussion groups. I'm not very active on this site, but I'm in several fanfiction discussion groups, and I have a link to my LJ on my profile.

Now, another student contacted me via the PM function of this site (paraphrasion from the German original by me):


I'm a journalist at the Bayrischen Rundfunk [Bavarian radio station] and I'm currently researching fanfiction. I'm looking for people in the area who'd be willing to give an interview about this subject.

I'd be interested in: what exactly is fanfiction? why do people write fanfiction? who are the people who write fanfiction? are you a fanfic writer yourself? etc.

(And some blah blah and contact data.)


Squee! I can tell a RL person about fanfiction. And he'll listen, not look at me with wide eyes and change the subject! I hope ;). OMG, I'm so excited. A little scared, too, because I'm not sure whether I want to tell a complete stranger "yes, I do write gay pr0n on the internetz" and have him broadcasting that all over the state *gg*. But this is too good a chance to pass it up.

Major squeeage! I wish someone I knew didn't think fanfic was teh weirdz. Maybe try not to focus so much on the gay pr0n, in case he gets freaked ;D

I'll try ^^. I hope he at least knows what House is. I checked his profile, and at the very least, he studies English. So I won't have to try and translate all those weird fandom-isms into German ;).

Hah! That is so cool. I dunno if I'd ever do one of those interviews, though, 'cause I'm weird enough in real life without even taking the fanfic thing into account-I'd probably traumatize the poor interviewer!

Heh. Well, I guess I'm weird enough so the fanfic thing doesn't really make a difference anymore *gg*. That interviewer is so gonna be traumatized, but hey, HE ASKED FOR IT! *gg*

Um. I just realized that my LJ is linked at my profile which means that the guy has probably taken a look at it and will probably do that again and find this post. Um. ... *waves* Hello Interview Guy! Don't mind the fangirly squeeing!

I'm meeting him this evening for the interview. All he found so far were The Pit and a Tokio Hotel Band fanfiction site *flinches*. I will have to rectify his first impression, I think *cracks knuckles* ;).

Dude! Awesome!

I occasionally get into meta-ish discussions about fandom with my mother (because she has her own fandoms, so she's not totally clueless, although she's not interested in fanfic). I have to be careful not to get too TL;DR on her, though; she's not one for overly abstract discussion. She's about the only person I can even say the word "fandom," to, and not get a blank stare.

This sounds like it might be a lot of fun.

Well, I do have RL people I can discuss fandom with - my sister, who is somewhat of a BNF in Enterprise, and neery, and I also have a couple of friends whom I have trained not to flinch and run when I say TEH GAY PR0N *gg*.

However, getting to tell people ON THE RADIO how awesome exactly fanfiction is, that's something entirely new. I just hope he won't focus too much on the 14-year-old Mary Sue HP writers and turn fanfiction into something cute that lonely teenage girls do when their BF has left them (I just talked to him on the phone, and it seems like he found two HP writers in the Munich area to interview. I'll have to set his head straight after that interview... ;P).
