Happy Birthday AO3! And some stats.
I signed up for Yuletide in the end. Got my assignment, which I am reasonably happy about. I've seen a few prompts I'm considering writing treats for. I really love the Yuletide app, it's so handy!
I've also seen a festivids requests that gave me an idea, but god vidding involves clipping and I just. I hate it so much, it's easily the worst thing of all the fannish hobbies I've tried out. So we'll see if that will go anywhere. I will say that I love the idea a lot.
The AO3 is ten years old! Happy belated birthday to the best site on the internet. The AO3 and the OTW are the one thing that reliably gets me teary when I read about the site's and the community's accomplishments--nothing else does that to me.
I checked my account creation date. Apparently I created mine on November 13, 2009 ... one day before the archive officially opened its doors? I'll take it.
My AO3 stats as of today are:
95 works in 17 fandoms, 82 of which are fic. I've also got 11 vids, and 2 pieces of art. All works are across 22 fandoms total.
Not all of these fics were written in the past 10 years--I posted my first fic 16 years ago. Not all of it is on the AO3, but most of it is! There may come a day that I'm brave enough to bring my really old fic to the AO3, but today is not that day.
This reminds me that due to an Open Doors import, I have a bunch of really old fics on the archive that I wrote with my sister back in the early 2000s that never got associated with either of our AO3 handles because we had them posted on the other archive under a shared account. There's 14 of those and they add up to ... 242,000 words. Jesus.
One day I will figure out how to associate those works with her and my accounts as collaborative works. On the other hand, they're not that great, so maybe I'll leave things as they are. ;)
Other just-me stats are:
Word Count: 446,836 (fic)
Hits: 89,662 (fic), 3,571 (vids), 1162 (art)
Kudos: 5,041 (fic), 145 (vids), 24 (art)
Comment Threads: 326 (fic), 28 (vids), 2 (art)
That's a per-fic average of:
5,500 words
1,100 hits
61 kudos
4 comment threads
A per-vid average of:
325 hits
13 kudos
3 comment threads
And a per-art average of:
581 hits
12 kudos

I posted to the AO3 yearly except for a big ol' gap Dec 2011 to Nov 2015. I'm glad I came back.

Also: vidding is best hobby and you know it.

Vidding is fine. Clipping, on the other hand, I'm pretty sure was classified a war crime in the Geneva convention.

Very true! It is by far the best thing to happen to fandom in the last ten years.
I'm regularly getting angry at how some people on tumblr need to put down the ao3 - probably for attention-grabbing reasons. Tumblr is the only site that manages to find fault with the ao3, another reason to hate it...

OMG LOL!
How did you manage to split the stats by vids and fic? I can't seem to filter my stats except by year.
All in all: yay stats!

Oh god, yeah. Like, I get that there's some things that you can disagree about, and I'm always here for informed debate. What gets me about the Tumblr griping is how fucking ignorant it is. "What do they do with all that money", "it's probably run by the NSA". IT'S RUN BY FANS. IT'S RIGHT THERE ON THE HOME PAGE. If you bother to click through to the OTW site, you can actually use your very own eyes to look at the spreadsheet that breaks down the OTW finances to the last cent.
I wish some of those people realized they can actually get in on the decision-making by volunteering. Be the change you want to see! But nope, it's easier to gripe on tumblr about things they know nothing about. Argh.

Yeah I just added them manually. xD I don't have that many vids and art, so it was fairly quick to just add them up scrolling through the page. I was curious about how the ratios compared. Stats are neat!
