New Torchwood Writers Announced

In the spirit of posting more, have more info about the new upcoming Torchwood:

Russell T Davies has firmed up the writing staff for the fourth season of "Torchwood," which debuts in the summer of 2011 on Starz.

Torchwood Davies, who created the "Doctor Who" spinoff, will of course write several episodes of the 10-part series, but other writers for Season 4 include John Shiban ("Breaking Bad," "Supernatural," "The X-Files"), Doris Egan ("House," "Tru Calling," "Dark Angel'), Jane Espenson ("Game of Thrones," "Battlestar Galactica," "Buffy") and John Fay (a U.K. "Torchwood" writer).

Doris Egan! John Fay! This is like scooping up all the good SF writers and putting them on a team that my favorite writer's in charge of. I approve.

I wish John Shiban weren't on the list. He wrote some of the worst episodes of The X-Files; I always used to cringe when his name appeared in the opening credits as a writer.

I checked imdb earlier and saw that he wrote Monday, which I have to admit I love dearly. Which did he write that you disliked? I am bad with episode names, so Monday was the only one I remembered from the list on imdb.

The two most infamous ones are "Tesos dos Bichos" (the "kitty cats from hell" episode) and "El Mundo Giro" (about Mexican immigrants affected by a possibly alien virus being the origin of the Chupacabra legend). "Milagro" and "Theef" were also boring, utterly forgettable episodes written by Shiban.

. . . kitty cats from hell? I do not recall this episode. >_> I watched all 9 seasons in a row back in 2004/2005, but have since only ever picked out my favorites to watch. This one doesn't seem to be one of them. xD

I vaguely recall the Mexican immigrants one. If there was only one of them. I do recall a Mexican immigrants episode. I don't remember the other two. Apparently he's not a writer who sticks in my mind.

I know that he wrote Tall Tales in SPN, though, which wasn't a bad episode, considering it was SPN, and, you know, I did like Monday. So maybe he's not completely a lost cause? I hope that RTD as a headwriter will sort out the worst of the other writers' shortcomings. That's something he's proved to be pretty good at, no matter if you like his own style or not.

I liked "Monday," too. I checked imdb and noticed that he did write (or co-write) some episodes I actually liked, so maybe there is indeed hope for him (especially if RTD continues to keep a close eye on all his writers).

:) Yeah. There are a couple of people on that list about whose own work I've been ambiguous, but I am hoping that with RTD focusing the scripts to serve the show's tone and theme and overall plot arc, the writers will realize their full potential.
