:(

Scary link is scary.

I have no idea what I will do if LJ actually closes down one day. Maybe move to JF, but their servers are just too robust to handle all of fandom.

And I don't know what to do about my expiring paid account on Jan 10. :/

Nothing lasts forever, it is true. I do fear the loss of so much good fic not stored anywhere else -- one reason I love the redundancy of LJ + archives + personal sites + other blogs.

I've got an Insane Journal account, but like other blogs it is hardly strong enough to handle the influx should all of fandom flock there. SixApart has Vox, now -- I might look at that.

I've been saying for a while that it is a mistake to put all our eggs into the LJ basket, not just because of the economy but also because of the threat of restrictions/banning. But does that mean I know what the solution is? Not really. *sighhhhh*

Good point about the community issue; I wonder that too, because while there are limited choices on where to go, there ARE choices and if half of any given fandom moves to JF and the other half moves to IJ and newbies who don't know where to go end up on Vox or Wordpress then the whole thing just scatters like the wind. (When I got into the Due South fandom I just about DIED due to the scattered nature of it -- live blogs, dead blogs, Yahoo groups, multiple archives, author sites, rec sites...it was an adventure, sure, but also aggravating as HELL.)

I think eventually everyone will migrate to a main blog -- it took years for fandom to coalesce on LJ, after all -- and so, long term, I'm not despondent. I'm just saying that if LJ crashes out, it will be a year or two of fandom chaos. *sighhhhh*

*will not worry*

It'l be fine, I promise. Welll I hope.

(Thinks srsly about backing up fic, Icons, EXT)

Hm...Not so good, that.

*will back up stuff stored on LJ*

...LJ's done a ton of stuff that wigged us out before and we all got through it *trying to keep the positive thoughts up*

*sigh* I really hope that LJ will be ok. I've got a blogger and wordpress, but they're not as fun and I use them mainly for knitting and crochet. I know a couple people with a backup insane journal, I may check that out as a back up as well and I guess it won't hurt to do an LJ archive (http://fawx.com/software/ljarchive/) thing too :/

I'm thinking that it'll be okay, given the huge permanent account sale they only very recently had.

But then again, maybe not. And if not, then a lot of people have shelled out $175 for nothing.

In any case, I'm ticcy on JF and cryptictac on IJ, should migration have to take place.

*thinks about crying*

I saw this reported on Topaz's LJ first, so I've started an a/c as housepiglet on insanejournal, just in case.

I'm helping with dev on http://www.dreamwidth.org/ (too lazy to html), which is awesome and suddenly has like, three times as many devs because of the aforementioned news. But JF is good too, I may have to get this journal mirrored over there at some point.

But don't worry kids, it isn't over yet. I promise!
