So who the fuck is Matt Smith?
He looks like the singer of an emo British indie band.
Why is the Beeb giving the job to another young white British guy? He's gonna have the hardest time ever competing against David. I'm cool with giving him a chance, I'm just like... way to make the poor guy feel inferior. :/

Aw, Nine. Well, he's still in there somewhere, just as Ten will still be in there somewhere as soon as Eleven takes over. It's what makes Doctor Who so shiny. :)

Everyone thought the other guy teyla posted about - Patterson Joseph - Was going to be the New Doctor but that turned out not to be the case. This guy, Matt Smith is the new Doctor. Official BBC conformation and all.

People have said he looks like [insert any one of approximately 200 people here]. I told my mother that I think he just looks like CE and DT had a lovechild. SERIOUSLY, I think that is what the genetics might turn out. CE's harsh features softened by David's pretty into...oddness that is pretty at exactly the right angle.
Basically, I agree with everything you're saying here. I am willing to give Matt Smith his fair chance now that I've calmed down (the Doctor is the Doctor, and he's the Doctor, so okay...companions?), but this would have been EXACTLY the right time to shake up the concept of the Doctor, and the BBC missed their chance. And by going with a "type" so close to David's (young, white, skinny, floppy hair), they've made it so much harder for Smith, because he will always, always be directly compared to David. Just what I'd hoped we'd avoid. I went on at length in

Well, basically, I'm rather optimistic. I'm quite sure he won't suck. I'm also quite sure, though, that he won't be anything new, which is kind of sad. Maybe DW will surprise me, though, they've certainly done that before. And I've heard people say that he's a good actor, so that's reassuring.
