Unpleasant Wankety Wank

The fan history wiki wank which has been building up for a while is starting to go down.

Smarter people than me have posted about this, so I'm linking to their posts:

- first one by [livejournal.com profile] ignazwisdom, whose post was the first I read about this;
- second one by [livejournal.com profile] astolat, who probably knows best of all what she's talking about, being in the position that she is;
- and last one by [livejournal.com profile] ithiliana, who gives a lot of background info.

Since many of you guys know my RL identity, I'll be using this opportunity to state my policy on this - I don't think I actually need a policy, being the small time fan that I am, but as we all know, the internet has a long memory.

I don't mind having my RL identity connected with my fannish identity. I would ask you to get my permission before you openly share my RL identity with other people (especially in googleable places), but chances are good that you'll get it. Personally, I won't share any RL information I have on other fans, except if I either have permission or for some other reason know for certain that the other person won't mind.

I do know the RL identity of quite a few of you guys, so if you want to let me know how to handle that info, you're welcome to leave me a comment - which are screened, and will only be unscreened if you let me know that you're okay with that.

I truly can't believe why that person does what she does! What's the use in having a nickname when someone throws RL-stuff on a page without asking? I know the RL identity of some of my LJ-friends (names, adresses, stuff) but I would NEVER share those with others without asking, and I would certainly NOT make them public on the interwebs. And I trust all my LJ-friends who know my RL identity, being the kind & smart people they are, to do the same. My House-Related World is very much my little secret hidingplace where the sun never sets and I want to keep it that way. I don't need the whole world to know exactly what I'm doing in my spare time. The way you handle the RL-info is perfect, so this post was really unnecassary, but I felt like throwing around my 2 cents. Feel free to unscreen this comment.
