Supernatural

Been watching a bit of Supernatural, and I guess I've seen enough to make a statement.

I want a car like that. I so want a car like that. I wouldn't be able to drive it here in Germany; with our narrow streets, I'd get stuck as soon as I got off the Autobahn, but still. I want one just like that.

I like the soundtrack - even though it drives me crazy half the time, because I almost always recognize the tune but for the life of me can't think of the title of the song. And I'm still waiting for the Metallica. I've seen the first 19 episodes, and even though I can't be 100% sure, I don't think I heard any Metallica so far. Led Zep, Iron Butterfly, Black Sabbath, Cream, but no Metallica. I've been paying attention, because [livejournal.com profile] neery got me started on SPN with the promise of metallic-y soundtrack. And I know most of Metallica's song very well, except the early ones like from Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, And Justice For All and Garage Inc. I know those, too, but I can't be 100% percent sure I'd recognize the songs anywhere. I'm fairly certain I'd recognize Metallica's style, though, and I haven't so far.

Okay, well, to the series itself... it really is very X-Files. They even use the same horror-bleached lighting like X-Files does in a lot of episodes (that Roman Polanski thing, like in Sleepy Hollow). There's a little more angst, and a little less aliens, but the feel is pretty much the same. And they are shameless thiefs. 1x05 "Bloody Mary", the scene when she comes crawling out of the mirror? "The Ring" all the way. Less scary, I'll give you that, but still, even the monster's motion patterns are the same (and the hair!). And yeah, urban legends pretty much stay the same no matter which series you're watching, but still they're going through all the same ones X-Files skimmed through in the first few seasons. I'll admit that the monster in the sewers and the monkey with the cymbals developed a life of their own, so I guess it's okay that they're using those. To be honest, I'm okay with being told the same supernatural legend by various books and series, so I'm enjoying myself even though I've seen/read pretty much the same things before. That they ripped off "The Ring" was a little too much for me, though.

About the characters... they're fun. I can't really warm up to Sam - he is quite annoying, and he is so not my type - but I like Dean, even though for my taste, he gets a little too obedient little soldier when his dad shows up. They're cute together, though, and I like it that they're not too manly to cry. Admitted, they cry (or almost-cry) almost every episode, but that's better than other series, where a man crying is even more out of the question as an on-screen openly gay character. However, I can't really relate too much to the family thing they've got going on. I guess that's me, though, because I've never been the family type. Anyhow, it makes for good angst, so I'm all for it. Although I hope they get rid of Dad at some point. Probably won't happen, it would kinda undermine the whole background of the series (except if he sacrifices himself, that might work), but I just don't like him. Besides, if Dad dies, that would make an awesome Dean angst plot, which in my book is a good thing.

One thing that annoys me - Dean never gets hurt! It always Sam Sam Sam. Granted, he gets electrocuted once, but that's once in 19 episodes. And they heal him within the first 15 minutes of the episode. Sure, it's the big-brother-protects-little-brother thing, but wouldn't it be fun to turn that around for once? Or twice?

Well, I guess I'll have to check out some fanfic. Not right now, though. Right now, it's Vena cava superior vs the many joys of the peritoneal cavity. Fun...

Dude, how are you still so totally unspoiled? They do kill him off, and the Dean angst is a thing of pure beauty.

By the way, we've watched ten eps so far, not 19. We're barely even at the beginning of the good part.

Hey! That's cheating!

So which eps did you like best?
