Dear Festividder
Dear Festividder,
Festivids! It's my first time, so I'm nervous -- about making a vid for a challenge, but also about writing prompts for vids! I've never done it before; all the prompting I've done in the past was for fic. I've done my best, but if the stuff under the cut makes no sense to you and doesn't give you any ideas, please ignore it and just make whatever you feel like making. I would much rather watch something that you enjoyed making than something you forced yourself to put together without feeling it. <3
Likes: Fast, funny, melodramatic! I like big images and big feelings to a good beat, tongue-in-cheek mixed with heart-clutchy moments of emotions; I like it when the vid dials the source to 11. If that's not your thing, I also enjoy vids that give a meta-voice to a character (think vids to musical songs or Crazy Ex-Girlfriend audio), or vids that pull a character off of the sidelines to center stage, or vids that have a strong thesis statement on a character or a ship ("this character is a nutjob!" "these characters are married!" "this character should take his shirt off more often!") and spend the timeline emphatically proving it. Last but not least, I am always delighted by solid action vids that match movement and music and use editing more than narrative to hold attention. Music-wise I am open to anything; go with whatever you think fits the source best (with the exception of songs with German lyrics -- I understand German and have strong opinions on what kind of German-lyric music I like and don't like, so I'd prefer non-German lyrics/ instrumental).
Dislikes/DNWs: I don't have any visual or audio triggers, I only have preferences: I struggle with very slow vids that rely on me being able to read detailed subtleties in facial expressions. I'm not good at groking traditional romance, so prefer vids that don't center on a main emotional selling point of romantic moments of longing between characters. When it comes to portrayal of queer women and female-presenting people, I relate more to the butch side of things and tend to seek that out in vids.
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
I really like Gay Perry. Really, really like him and his permanent eyeroll at the world, would love a vid about him. I love the aesthetics of this film, too, so if you want to make a meta-leaning vid about the noir-ness of the source, I would enjoy that. I love Harmony, and her whole competent disaster vibe, would happily receive a vid about her. Harry is great, too, if he's the guy you want to vid, I support you!
Lost Tomb Reunion
Iron Triangle! I love them, disaster husband tomb raiding idiots that they are. I am always here for a party vid about this source, so if that is where your heart lies, go for it. However, since there are already quite a number of party vids for LTR, what would make me very happy for this source is something that works with the emotions in this show. I know, sometimes they get a little lost between the Galaxy Quest Warehouse 11 nonsense and the thunder listening skience, but they are there! Middle aged men being confronted with their mortality, with things not always going their way, having to deal with water bills and uncles that want you to get married and run the family business, realizing that life at some point just gets a little more complicated than it used to be, and running away and hiding in a tomb about it is only going to get you so far. My feelings for this show are all about the long-time (life-long!) friendship between the leads (and what Wu Xie's terminal case of lungs brings out about that friendship), so anything that revolves around that will make me happy. Oh, and "You Told The Drunks I Knew Karate". Just putting that out there. I haven't quite found an angle to make it work yet, but maybe you'll have more luck!
Brief note: please no Wu Xie/Xiaoge shipping vid for this one; I get sad when Pangzi gets left out.
Bandits
Baby queer high school me loved this movie very much. I haven't seen it in years and years, so anything that reminds me of what was great about it would be amazing. I particularly liked Luna and Emma and their contentious relationship, I also adored the dreamlike roadtrip outlaw feeling of it. For this, I don't have a specific prompt, just wistful queer nineties vibes.
All the President's Men
Spies! Journalists! Politics! Secret meetings in parking garages! 70s aesthetics! Honestly, I feel kind of bad requesting this movie, because I wouldn't have the first clue where to start vidding it. I don't even have a music genre idea, I just love Bernstein/Woodward as a disaster couple/work besties, and also political journalist and spy shenanigans, so ... anything. Literally anything. Go wild.
The Exorcist
I really loved this show when I watched it, but I haven't seen it in a long time and forgot what exactly it was that I loved so much. So for this, I would love to be reminded why this show is great. Make me a recruiting vid! I do remember adoring Tomas, so if recruiting vids are not your thing, a Tomas vid would be amazing, too. I also remember really liking John Cho's character in season 2, so a vid about him would also be very welcome!
The Personal History of David Copperfield
This movie gave me lots of fuzzy feelings about what it means to be a writer. That's hard to vid, so I'm not sure how to put that into a vidding prompt, but if you come up with a genius idea of how to condense that aspect of the movie into a vid, I will be incredibly impressed. Failing that (and please do not feel like you need to do this; I'm not sure it's even possible), I would love a vid about the main character, and the confusion and curiosity with which he navigates through life. Alternatively, if you find a way to create a vid that means I can rewatch the movie without rewatching the movie, I'll be super happy.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
Action vid! For this one, I just want badass ladies with swords killing zombies. I don't need it to be deep or complex, as long as there's ladies who have swords that they use to kill zombies. If you're not an action vidder, I will also happily receive a character vid about literally any of the ladies.
Pimp My Ride
I used to love this show back when it was a thing that was on TV. All that silly shit they did to the cars, all the ridiculous tech they put into them, the paint jobs, the 00s swagger, all of it. Make me a vid showcasing all these beautiful early 00s disaster aesthetics, the car bro vibes, the absolute pieces of junk that some of the people brought in which got transformed into pieces of junk with a sparkly paint job, people losing it over their new ("new") cars -- I just want to roll around in the silliness that was this show.
