As I said in my first paragraph, I haven't been closely following the discussions on metafandom. This isn't really an essay; it's just a quick write-up of a few thoughts that skimming the metafandom posts put in my head. I didn't put a lot of refined thought into this, which is why there might be a few things in there that aren't as carefully stated as they would be if I'd actually written an essay on this issue. (And if I'd known that I'd get linked on metafandom.)
