Oh, goodness! The prompt I ended up writing gave me this pairing as a possibility and I totally wussed out, so I was really curious to see what you did with it, and I have to say, I really liked it more than I expected to. The relationship here seems sort of casual extension of what Gene and Nelson would already have in canon terms, still fairly light but with Nelson's own brand of wisdom and Gene's particular need of guidance at this stage very much intact.
