This and that and a very tired me.

+ All I've done since making it home is sleep, download some stuff, watch the entire season of Wayward, and play undemanding video games. Man have I slept. Would like to lie down right now and sleep some more, but I'm headed back to work for the day (we abruptly left Thursday instead of Friday as planned, so I left behind a wee bit more chaos that I'm comfortable with).

Surprisingly smooth ride on the ferry though, given the weather.

+ Dear Vidder letters for Festivids are cropping up, and they're such a pleasure to read through. Aww fandom ❤️

+ Hunting down the digital singles for Birds of Prey, bc waiting for the trade to drop in six months is just not on the table. More Big Barda and Tiny Bat NOW. And they cancelled it, so I ain't giving them extra money, no sir :p

Now to figure out how to read them in an enjoyable manner.

Oh! And posted some scans to [community profile] capshare from the second and third trade.

+ Watched the new Fantastic Four. It was cozy! I'm enjoying this new return to more child-friendly superhero movies. Like, I can see letting my nephew watch both this and the new Superman movie with me. I don't need all this dark stuff for grownups; the world is dark enough as is, gimme escapism!

8 new icons for my 100ships table

This time, only about half a year has passed until I remembered to make a few more icons for my [community profile] 100ships table. \o/

There are eight new ones - hover for fandom and pairing:

#12 – Sunlight #18 – Blush #43 – Yellow #54 – Rainbow
#58 – Ash #64 – Lipstick #69 – Flirt #78 – Leather

blathering
I'm especially happy with these:

* the Sunlight one, it says "[you used to] shine so brightly", a comment that the FL made about the ML multiple times in the first few episodes, and here they're kissing in the light of the setting sun, surrounded by beautiful grass.
* the Yellow one, which is from the proposal scene in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love, where he sings a song to her. Someone made a clip on twitter where it's evident that Wu Lei actually sang Coldplay's Yellow to her, but since they couldn't use the song in the final product, they had to write another song (which he sings in the OST).
* the Lipstick one, where Song Sanchuan uses Liang You'an's lipstick to write her name on the alumni board of her university. That's her name as he wrote it, on the icon.
* the Leather one, where Ling Buyi is wearing the leather armor she sewed for him, which everyone thinks is chicken (why?) but it's supposed to be Mandarin duck. The "why a duck" quote is from the Marx Brothers (youtube clip).

The table is here: https://tinny.dreamwidth.org/704185.html. There are currently 48 icons in it.

Freeform weekly proof of life: the state of things + some bare-bones reading notes

Suddenly I'm on the other side of the fall crunch at work, early enough that I somehow feel at loose ends even though regular full-time work continues and I have freelance work that badly needs tackling (plus, y'know, the endless litany of things I should do and want to do and only ever make slow progress on).

Despite the crunch, I've gotten some tidying/organizing done in my office; it could still use a lot more work, but I've cleared some surfaces that haven't seen the light of day in a long time, so that feels good. And a couple bits of autumnal decor have crept out here and there around the house, but maybe this weekend we can do a more serious job with that sort of thing.

Quick book notes: I don't think I've specifically mentioned that I did finish and enjoy Caitlin Starling's The Starving Saints (mind the cannibalism, though); I've made further slow, slow progress on Warmth: Coming of Age at the End of Our World; last night I finished Silver and Lead, the new October Daye book, which was a solid installment; and last night I also started reading, for a total change of pace, Her Halloween Treat (romance, Tiffany Reisz), which I presumably saw recced somewhere when it was on sale (I think around this time last year, but I didn't get to it before last Hallowe'en), and which I'm only a couple of chapters into.

I don't generally make a big stab at seasonal media, other than trying to watch a couple of Christmas movies the last year or two, but since I have a few seasonally-appropriate books, that's as good a way of choosing "what next?" as any.

And with the crunch over, I imagine [personal profile] scruloose and I will soon be back to listening to Murderbot books.

ANIMAL SHOWS UMBRELLA REQUEST:

So I would love a vid that uses any or all of the animal shows below to wallow in the good feelings that come from loving and bonding with and caring for pets. If you want to expand to include a favorite show of your own, that’d be cool. I also have enjoyed Festivids-eligible things like Animal Cribs (TV/Disney+), Dog: Impossible (TV/Disney+), Dogs (TV/Netflix), Dr. K's Exotic Animal ER (TV/Hulu), Fur Babies (TV/NatGeo/Disney+), and Cat Daddies (movie/Kanopy) if you want to mix in any. Animal feelinnngggs.

The Dog House UK )

The Wizard of Paws )

Cesar Millan: Better Human Better Dog )

Critter Fixers: Country Vets )

LOL. "Cute, cute, cute, sweet, cute, VAMPIRE TRAUMA."

Music-wise, my favorite genres are folk from pretty much any country, rock, classical, instrumental, bluegrass, movie scores, Celtic, choral, country where it intersects with folk and rock, some pop, some dance, some hip hop, indie... If you mix dialogue with music, please make the dialogue very clear/easily audible.

Thank you!!

+ My brain is mush. We dock sometime during tonight, so tomorrow will be another hectic day. Thankfully come Friday I shall have freedoooommmm.

+ I want a Big Barda icon but I'm too zapped to make one *sulk*

Maybe after I've had my shower.

+ Not helping: my mom constantly asking me when I can come see her in Oslo, and for plans this Christmas when she'll be visiting and living at my brother's. I do not have capacity for this. Love her to bits but it's tough to convey that SOCIAL BANK EMPTY, PLAN QUEUE FULL.

+ Booked my flu shot for next Thursday. Apparently they're not doing Covid shots at the doctor anymore, boo. And the only information I can find is that it becomes available week 42. Hopefully I manage to get in there early enough that it will mostly be in full effect by the time I go to Thailand.

+ One Battle After Another will be showing at the small local cinema next week. There's been some very positive buzz. I may try to lure some friends to come with.

+ Decided to try and move away from using GoodReads, and so far StoryGraph seems a good fit. I know there's quite a few options out there, but I only made it through two before settling on StoryGraph. (Fable being the second option, but just way too busy for me. Someone looking for a move involved and social experience might vibe with it!)

One of the fun things is you can make your own book lists or challenges. I started putting together a small Queer Comics one. I could only find two other comic/graphic novel challenges by searching, so that's certainly a void in need of filling that's what she said.

Anyways, I'm here, in case anybody else is stretching their wings.

Sad eta: Jane Goodall has passed.

I've told this story to so many people but I just. I cannot. I. Well. The new job is going pretty well, I'm really getting into it, I have a crush on my boss and I like everyone I've met so far.

Yesterday one of my new colleagues came into the office a little down-hearted after being out for a meeting. The meeting hadn't gone well, she explained. "I forgot to invite anyone."

Dear Festividder 2025

Dear Festividder,

Thanks so much for making me a vid! I requested the maximum amount of fandoms this year, and I'm excited to see what you will do for any one of them! Please feel free to make any kind of vid you want - happy, sad, pensive, goofy... anything is great with me. Essentially, if you’re into the vid you’re making, I’ll be into the vid you’re making! I'll add some specific things I like about each fandom below, but if you already have an idea or want to do something else, feel free to go with it.

Just a few DNWs:
1. Close-ups of realistic-looking fish. This would mainly come up in the cooking-related fandoms - basically, wide shot of someone gutting a fish? OK. Close-up of fish staring deep into my soul? Not OK. Feel free to run this past[personal profile] kuwdora if you're not sure!)

2. Please don’t use dialogue from the source over music, as I find it distracting. Other diegetic sound (like sound effects) are great, an intro or tag with dialogue are fine, and using unusual audio like poetry as your “music” is fine! I just don’t love dialogue from the source being used throughout the vid.

Music:
As I mentioned above, pretty open to whatever kind of audio you want to use, including poetry, spoken word, or whatever else you can think of. I am a strong believer in using whatever kind of music that works best for the vid, even if it's not something I'd normally listen to, but if you want to know what I like, I am always generally into pop, rock, alternative, anything from the 90s, and classic rock. I'd prefer no Taylor Swift if you can avoid her music, but if you have a genius idea and you truly need to make an I Am Bread vid to Love Story, I'm not going to be mad about it.

COOKING FANDOMS!

Top Chef (US)
Listen, I know this fandom has a ridiculous amount of source. I do not want this to be stressful for you. Feel free to pick your favorite season, some kind of thread throughout all of it that you want to focus on, just a vid of yummy food, quickfire disasters, etc. [personal profile] kuwdora  and I have watched 21 of the 22 seasons of Top Chef over the past year and a half (and are currently watching our final one) and it's just been a nice time. We just really love the way they are all so passionate about food. This show has also inspired me to start cooking, so that's nice!

Bryan & Michael Voltaggio RPF
I just really enjoy their dynamic, and think it would be fun to see a vid of the two of them. This type of sibling rivalry sounds like my worst nightmare, but it works for them, and I love that they support each other, but are still very competitive. The fact that they're both ridiculously talented in their own ways makes them so fun to watch. Feel free to either stick to Top Chef footage, or use anything else you can find.

Kristen Kish RPF
Kristen is one of my favorite Top Chef alum! I would love a vid that shows her passion for cooking, her friendships with fellow chefs and judges, and especially how she is not afraid to cry and generally show her emotions. Again, feel free to stick to Top Chef (and/or Top Chef adjacent) footage if you want, but you're welcome to use whatever other source you can find.

VIDEO GAMES!

Date Everything! (Sassy Chap Games Video Game)
I absolutely love the creativity of this game. The incredibly detailed costumes! The sheer ridiculousness of dating your bathtub! I know someone could make something really fun out of the visuals of this source.

I Am Bread (Video Game)
Another game that I think would just make a really fun vid. You are a piece of bread, desperately trying to make it to the toaster to become toast. It's harder than you'd think.

Tiny Bookshop (Video Game)
This game was released a few months ago, and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. You drive a little mobile bookshop around a small seaside town, making friends with the locals, helping them with their quests, but best of all... RECOMMENDING THEM BOOKS! Real book titles, for the most part! The design of this game is so cozy and lovely. I also love that the characters are super diverse, as are the featured books. I'd love to see what someone can do with this.

EVERYTHING ELSE! (Details coming soon, I promise I love these fandoms just as much... I requested so many fandoms...)

Haunted Mansion (2023) [SAFETY]
The Pitt (TV)
The Traitors (US TV 2023)
Nickelodeon GUTS (TV)
