Reasons I'm glad I'm a multishipper #21342

Guys... I just don't get ship wars.

I was just reading this Heroes wank at fandom_wank, in which some butthurt kid is whining about her fic not getting any comments or something. In one comment of the wank, someone, in all seriousness, made this statement:

"In our infancy the Mattmo ship felt very persecuted."

... what? This just does not compute. I don't get it. How can you feel persecuted about shipping a set of fictional characters? What happened? Did evil fandom burn down Mattmo comms and grill Molly in a giant wok? Did they locate Mattmo shippers and go to their houses and eat all their chocolate? Did they put contracts out on Mattmo shippers' parents? Just... what?

I know. Old meme is older than Methuselah, but I really, really, really don't get how you can honestly and seriously write a sentence like that and don't feel completely and absolutely silly. Fiction and reality. Remember the difference?

Besides, there's only one true ship, anyway. *pets the TARDIS*

In other news, I saw Watchmen last night. It was good! I enjoyed it. And I think I finished my D/M genderfuck ficlet. Expect fic in the near future!

So much word. Why is "shipping" something to fight over, anyway? Isn't a relationship supposed to be a good thing? You'd think they were talking about arranged marriages or prison sentences or something...

Did they locate Mattmo shippers and go to their houses and eat all their chocolate?

Horrors! *giggles uncontrollably*

The Doctor ships himself with everyone and anyone, anyway. 9_9

Indeed. But no one comes between him and the TARDIS! They have to share :) So it's especially ridiculous to argue about that OTP.

And the idea of fighting over ships for Jack Harkness, of all people, is beyond ridiculous!

heh. Why yes, I do agree with you. My own irony was that I got seriously burned in the due South fandom (http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1195567.html) for dissing on a pairing that I actually ship. *shakes head* Some fans really take it very seriously indeed -- they hate certain pairings, or they feel they are hated for the pairing they like. I know people can get rude about pairings but if someone hates your ship you would care because....why?

Fandom can be a silly beast sometimes.

Oh, Lordy. And a couple of entries below that, there's FFVII wank. Why do all my fandoms attract the crazy?

And "fan" is short for "fanatic," after all ;)

Aaah, you are in a relationship with the Tardis. Hmmmhmmmm, well, maybe your dialogs are a bit biased?

;-))

HE STROKES HER.

Which is one of the sexiest things on TV, actually :D (Don't tell the censors I said that!)

Why why why why WHY can't people just accept a. that Fandom should be fun b. that the Internet should be fun c. that, strangely, different people like different things??

*whines* I want Internet to be FUN! I can wank with the best of them, but this is just plain silly, bordering on the idiotic.

Yeah, well, it shouldn't be the nature of the Internet. We need to change that. I'm seriously considering starting a community for that.

The problem is when rabid fans of one particular ship claim that the ship is "canon," when it's not because it was never depicted as such on the TV series. And you've done that yourself - in one post, you said F/K in "Due South" "is CANON (almost)."

Now, you may have been joking, but there are F/K shippers out there who seriously say that ship is canon, when the only canon pairings on "dS" episodes are het - RayK/Stella, Fraser/Victoria, RayV/Angie and Fraser/Thatcher. End of story!

But that doesn't stop close-minded F/K shippers from spreading lies that their ship is "canon" and disregarding other ships that had/have a following in fanfic - namely F/V; poor RayV is either cast as just "Fraser's friend" or, worse, his former friend, by these F/K shippers.

What they don't understand, or refuse to acknowledge, is that there's just as much potential for F/V as F/K, but neither ship is canon. I just wish the F/K shippers would shut the hell up about their ship being canon - BECAUSE IT"S NOT! Paul Gross may have played with the subtext for F/K (and by the way, he didn't have to "play" with the subtext for F/V; it was just there), but that doesn't make the ship canon.
