I'm not fucking okay with this.
Okay, so I'm usually really not too sensitive about people being not 100% political correct in any and all situations. Meaning I do know the difference between a friendly jab and discrimination. I'm not one to jump down people's throats for a slightly misplaced comment, either, I usually just don't comment and roll my eyes in private at the displayed ignorance.
But I've just about had it with the misogyny and the homophobic comments in this workplace.
I know they don't mean it. I know they're just fucking stupid and ignorant and don't think about what the hell they're saying. And they're not actually being aggressive about it; it's more that the existing clichés are being accepted as hard facts and are made fun of, and it's simply infuriating.
You know how most male stand-up comedians always make fun of the same things? It's women, it's religion, or it's gay people. Making fun is good. I like making fun of things. But I'm not fucking okay with the exaggerated opinions and clichés from those stand-up programs diffusing into real life and being accepted as the way things are. So Cologne is a city with a high gay population. Do you have to roll your eyes about that every fucking time the city is mentioned? The Glockenbachviertel is the gay scene in Munich. Do you really have to warn people about that - as in, "well, you could take a hotel there, but I should tell you there are a lot of queers around."?
And please do not, I repeat not patronize me because I as a woman know more about computers than you do. This is so backwards typing it out hurts my brain, but this is what actually happens. You're a woman and you know your way around a video conversion program? I'll bet you a hundred dollars that instead of simply accepting that you've got more expertise in that area, most men will smile and make an aw-look-how-cute face when you try to explain to them what they're supposed to be doing. I'm not your fucking kid who you explained this shit to. You don't get to patronize me about this. And stop being too fucking dumb to use Google to tell you how to use your computer - how do you think I learned all of this?
When you're at uni, you don't really notice how much of an effort they make not to be discriminating. You just take it for granted. Which it fucking should be. But when you're around people who just don't have that presence of mind, the constant ignorant comments and slurs start to get to you. It's disheartening, really.

Cars and bikes too. I have similar problems with the computer things, but mostly people know my dad is a crazy good IT guy, so that helps.
The Glockenbachviertel is the gay scene in Munich.
The funniest bit of this? My brother had a conversation with our hotel manager's boyfriend about this just last night. I only tuned in on the last of it, but my brother was blushing something fierce. (I think the conversation went like "Where are you from?" "Germany." "Ever been to Munich?" "Uh... yes?" "Well, I hear...")
I'm sorry for all the stereotypes you're being swamped with, but some of it is amusing. And ignore the boys at work. You're leaving soon enough, right? I learned a long time ago, (About when I started getting sent to the library during my high school US History and Culture class, for "independent study") that there are stupid people in the world, and if you get mad at them, all you get out of it is patronization and a migraine.
Although, I do like reading about it. Makes us smart, open-minded people fell less abnormal and insane.

I try not to get myself too worked up about stuff like this. Usually I manage. Somehow, today I'd had enough, though, and needed to vent.

Vent all you want. You made me vent too. (Which is good so next time I don't bite someone's head off.)

Still, I do fight it. Because I can't NOT fight it. As it says in the song: "anger is an energy", and I can get frighteningly angry.

All we can do is fight it, because if we don't, how is it supposed to become better?
But it is tiring and annoying and sometimes you just want to punch someone for their stupidity.

Punching... I've managed not to do that yet ;-)

But I'm glad there are other people who do still want to put the smack down on the assholes of the world.

It is, and it really shouldn't be that way.
And, you know, the worst for me are those that are actually intelligent people, but who are to lazy to get informed, because then they'd have to actually think and maybe change their opinion.
