Role Play Activity

Somewhere for me to keep track of my role play activity that happens off-muse-journal. Most of these are [livejournal.com profile] dear_mun posts, with some [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories and [livejournal.com profile] dear_multiverse posts sprinkled in. Also logged are comm participations.

I tried to find all posts I made before the creation of this list (on 11/12/2011), but I'm fairly sure I didn't get them all. I will attempt to log all posts I make from now on.

Feel free to tag into any open post, no matter how old, if you are so inclined. Feel free to track this post, or, if you have a paid account, track the threads of specific muses you'd like to follow. I'm not a particularly active RPer, so even if you track this entire post, I doubt you'd get your inbox spammed too badly.

So . . . apparently tumblr is like crack. Kind of useless, but addictive.

John Smith (my human!Doctor roleplay AU) and Harry Brown (Jasper's human!Master roleplay AU) now have tumblrs, too. J. Smith and H. Brown.

We'll see how long it'll take until I lose interest.

I made an entry at [livejournal.com profile] dear_mun with my Christina de Souza. If you feel like bothering her, go here.

I fail. I made a post with Shran about a week ago, but then life suddenly started taking up a lot of time and I failed to reply for a while and now I don't want to go back and tag people a week after they tagged in. So . . . now I'm posting with Christina? It makes sense in my head. :/

I totally forgot about this.

Last Christmas--that is, Christmas 2009--[livejournal.com profile] mind_the_tardis came over to visit me. Being the good girlfriend that I am, I gave her a Christmas present. It was a drawing of our two role play muses, human!Ten and human!Master, whose backstories we were developing at the time--and whom we kept using as an excuse to spend hours and hours on end chatting on AIM.

When I was in the US over Christmas this year, I saw the drawing hanging on Jasper's wall and realized that I never shared it on my journal. So I asked her to scan it for me.

Behold, role play fanart. )

If you want to know more about those muses, ask! I love talking about them. :3 Or you can check out [livejournal.com profile] dreamtofbeing and [livejournal.com profile] dntfretprecious, the muse journals.

. . . and now I will go write my essay. Promise.

Yuletide, RP, Writing, and a Poll

  • Dec. 20th, 2010 at 10:27 PM
teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([otf] torchwood jack)
Yuletide finished, beta'ed, edited and posted. My first Yuletide experience: could have been a lot worse. I am sort of curious to see what my Yuletide writer came up with. They haven't defaulted; I guess that's a good sign.

Writing that fic made me miss writing. I love RPing, but writing is just an entirely different kettle of fish. Roleplaying is good because it keeps you writing--someone tags you, you sort of have to tag back eventually, no matter if you feel like it or not. But it's also bad because it's so self-indulgent. You never have to streamline anything, you never have to structure a plot, and if you get bored with a thread, you can drop it and start a new one. You can create stories, in RP, but a lot of the time, you're just kind of . . . sharing your thoughts on yaoi your character. In tag-form. You do get to know your character very well, but in order to tell a story, you need more than just a character.

That sounds very snotty and condescending and makes it sound like I think writing is "better" than RPing. I don't. I just think there's a bigger difference between the two than people realize. I do know that I love RPing, and that I still feel that I should turn Jasper's and my epic Doctor/Master AU into fic. Because I love that AU, and I love its story, and I want to be able to share it.

My thoughts on RP, let me show you them. Maybe I'll start writing fic again when I have a new fandom I can get excited about. The new Torchwood needs to start airing already. By the way--how is that fandom going to work? Are they going to run it on the old [livejournal.com profile] torch_wood comm? Because . . . I can't see that ending well. Not with that comm being mostly about the Jack/Ianto and SIJ crowd.

Single Father

teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([actor] quiet david's on)
So I just watched Single Father.

Almost no spoilers underneath. )

Also, I just dropped out of the role play comm! Because . . . they were accusing me of infomoding when all I was doing was not nerf my character into absolute incompetence in order to let a plot go ahead. Or, well, actually, they weren't accusing me. It was all very passive-aggressive and polite, as LJ RP tends to be. I'm not actually holding a grudge against most players at the comm, but it was just getting a drawn-out exercise in frustration. So I dropped! I should be around more now.

Also. Single Father. So much love. So much love. I may have to rewatch it tomorrow. Now that I've got time since I'm not RPing all day anymore.

Random note of debatable importance.

Hi guys. Sorry for being so out of touch. Not that I think you noticed me being out of touch, because I'm always an incorrigible lurker, but. What with the new job and having apped at that RP comm(*), I am failing to keep on top of the f-list. Caught up now, though. \o/

(*)"That RP comm" is The Last Voyages, which you will have heard of if you are involved in RP fandom in any way at all. I am playing a Ray Kowalski and amusing myself by shipping him with a T'Pol. Oh, Ray. Stop going for the distant, competent, completely-out-of-your-league women. I also apped a Christina de Souza and have been waiting for my app approval/dismissal for over three days. Come on, you mod guys. I know that my Christina is, gasp, almost an AU, or at least has a very extensive backstory--but c'mon, she's got barely an hour of canon. I had to make some additional stuff up. Damn you, RP fandom, and your ridiculous and irrational aversion to AUs.

And then there's this.

Click for bigger. And then tell me if you recognize him. (Most of you have probably already seen this, but.)

I HAVE A JOB THAT GIVES ME FREE COFFEE WHENEVER I WANT IT.

I think that's really all I've ever wanted out of a part-time employment. Free coffee. And a free lunch muffin. Om nom nom. I'm also making over £100 a week--at least at the moment, when there is no uni--which means that my monthly budget just more than doubled. Jobs. Are nice.

Watch me get fired after my first week because I'm going to have to tell them that I have a pre-booked States-side holiday from Dec 11 until Jan 2. >_>

Also, I'm getting old. I woke up this morning feeling like utter crap. As in, seriously. I was dizzy and nauseous and little black spots kept dancing across my vision. NO MORE ROLE PLAYING UNTIL 5:30 AM WHEN I HAVE TO GET UP AT 9. She said and rp'ed until 6 instead. (The utter-crap-feeling may have partially been time-of-the-month induced, though. And I'm feeling fine now; was actually feeling fine by the time I arrived at work. Getting up in the morning. Is hard.)

I have nothing of interest to share? Except this. OMG IT IS FULL OF BABY ANIMAL PICTURES. D'awwww.

(And a note to Mr Gaiman. Dear Mr Gaiman, I appreciate you as a decent writer, exceptional blogger and knowledgeable internet-user, as well as a fellow Who geek. In that sense, please don't take it the wrong way if I tell you that you spelling Doctor Who as Dr Who makes me want to stab puppies. Sincerely and all of that, someone who is only watching the next series because it's got a Gaiman episode.)

I got up at 5 am this morning and accompanied Jasper to Heathrow, where she caught the 12 pm plane back to Washington. It's 5:30 pm now, and she'll be landing in about two hours. I'll see her next on Dec 11.

Also, we went to Cardiff, and since Aug 24, I've been officially wearing a narrow titanium ring with YANA engraved on the inside. No pictures, unfortunately, because I didn't take any (my camera broke last summer) and I forgot to copy the ones Jasper took off her camera. Suffice to say, the Cardiff trip was a good four days. Despite occasional rain.

I found Stephen King's Under The Dome at a used book store in Cardiff, and as a Constant Reader, of course I had to snag it. For a book of almost 900 pages, it's a pretty quick read--I finished it just now.

No spoilers, really, just cut for rambling. )

Now I think I will make dinner. And think about ending my hiatus at the roleplay comm I recently joined. I am playing Ray Kowalski. He's trying to hit on T'Pol. It's hilarious.

Q&A MEME
- Leave me a comment saying you want to participate.
- I'll respond by asking you five questions.
- Update your journal with the answers to your questions.

[livejournal.com profile] daphnie_1 asked:

1) If you went on Mastermind, what would your specialist subject be?
Iii dunno? There's nothing specific I'm good at; I'm more a general knowledge kind of person. Maybe geography. Or Doctor Who. If I can pick a television show. I have to admit that I've never watched a complete episode of Mastermind.

2) If you could run away with: The Doctor, the Master, the Rani or Romana, who would you choose?
The Doctor. The Master's too nuts, the Rani's too fixated on science, and Romana's a pain in the ass. Yes, I would even run away with Four. I would probably push him off a cliff, though.

3) As a future television producer, which TV show do you think has had the most defining effect on you?
Definitely Doctor Who. Or, to be precise, RTD's era. It was the first television show that gripped me not only on a fannish level, but on a level where I looked past the characters at the production team and decided that yes, this is what I want to do. The confidentials helped--watching them, and seeing how much effort people put in this project, and how many people are involved in creating it, made me realize that this is a process I would love to be part of. So, yes, RTD's Who.

4) You have the chance to say anything to any historical figure. Who do you pick and what do you say?
Even if I could talk to historical figures, I probably would fail to see the point. Nothing I could say would make a difference, since history has already happened. That said, I might go back and tell Gandhi that I think he was a wonderful, smart person, and that I hope that his work and his ideas will continue to be remembered far into the future.

5) What do you think makes a good story?
This gets a cut because it's long. )

Also, if you're a role player; an f-lister linked to a survey an academic friend of hers is conducting as part of her research for her master's thesis. It's about gender and sexuality of players and characters in role play games. It took me about an hour to fill out. If you have Thoughts On Role Play, you can totally knock yourself out in this survey.

Pimping [livejournal.com profile] embassylaments

teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([xf] agents)
I know there are only two or three people on the f-list to whom this is relevant, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

Does your character need a place to rant? Do they want somewhere to go so that they can take a break from the nuttiness of the game they're currently in? What about those ones whose canon seem dead set on making them absolutely miserable? Maybe they just need a place to go relax away from home for a few days?

Well, boys and girls, this is where the Embassy comes in.

We're offering a place for your character to take a break, whether its from canon, their current game or whatever it is they may be up to. They can kick back, poke at other people or do whatever it is they want -- even, if they so choose, complain at you.

Fourth wall? We know not of this fourth wall that you speak of.

So come on in! Have a drink, commiserate with your fellow muses for a few hours before you're dragged back to whatever bizarre, ridiculous and/or miserable things your mun has concocted for you!

Pimping a RP comm, [livejournal.com profile] embassylaments, which, as described above, is a meta-ish multiversal place for muses and players to hang out and have fun. So far, there are only six players, but it's already quite interesting. So if you've got a few muses you want to throw in there, please do go ahead and give it a try.

Especially if you have a Mulder. I picked up a Scully, but she has no Mulder to play off of. :|

So I was supposed to be filming today, but then the BBC extended a shoot and one of my actors pulled out at the last moment. FUN. At least this means a free Saturday. I'll hopefully be filming tomorrow instead--not with the BBC actor, though. We'll have to make do with a different one. If she gets back to us and lets us know whether she has time.

Of course, now my entire crew is whining at me. BUT TOMORROW IS VALENTINE'S DAY. So? You'll still have the evening. Besides, Valentine's Day is a stupid, petty holiday anyway. It's not like it's Christmas.

In totally unrelated news, I really, really want to try playing one of my muses in a comm again. Preferably human!Ten, but I'll try anyone. I played in Taxonomites, which didn't work out, and then tried Ars Arcanum, which died before it properly started. I would probably want to mod the comm, though. I set one up once, but I don't think the person I set it up with is interested in doing it anymore. I might just go ahead and do it by myself. BECAUSE I TOTALLY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TO DO ANYWAY.

I have to sit down and write today. I need to finish my Haiti fic, and I need to finish a 10 page script by Monday. Especially now that I won't have time to do this tomorrow. Sigh.

I would really not have a problem with it being March 24 now.

Strange ongoings are going on.

Blah blah about RP. )

ANYWAY. I know I owe people fic, and I will write it. I suck so much, I didn't even manage to write my parents the email that I owe them. My excuse is that I spent Saturday on the Isle of Wight, getting soaked. Oh, and filming ghosts. But mostly getting soaked. SO MUCH RAIN OMG. We're probably going to go back next Saturday to get some more shots. We're supposed to have a rough cut of this project by Dec 11. So much for no more deadlines until Christmas. >_>

I would be really okay with it being Dec 21st now. There's Stuff going on, and it's been going on for a while, and most people on the f-list probably know what I'm talking about and all my being cryptic is totally pointless, but the Stuff can't get properly figured out until the 21st, and I've been waiting for LIKE TWO MONTHS for it to be the 21st. So, 21st now. Please. (And ahaha what, cryptic paragraph is cryptic. I'm sorry. It's Good Stuff, so don't worry. But I don't want to talk about it on here yet SO HOW ABOUT I JUST DON'T AND SHUT UP NOW JEEZ WOMAN IT'S NOT THAT HARD.)

There were more things I wanted to talk about. What was it? Christmas is coming up and I totally don't really have the money to buy anybody any presents. I really hate this part about Christmas, this "here is a list of people you need to give presents to" thing. I would totally and honestly go with not getting any presents at all if it meant I wouldn't have to give people stuff. Not because I'm a cheapskate, but because I always flail and don't know what to get. And it keeps you from giving people stuff during the rest of the year. I like giving people stuff, but with the year having Designated Present Giving Days, you can never just give people stuff whenever you feel like it. It's mid-June and you've got this awesome idea, but nope, you gotta wait until Christmas, by which time the awesome idea doesn't seem so awesome anymore, or the product's out of stock, or whatever. If you even remember what it was you thought of.

Other than that, I like Christmas, though. I'm not a Christmas hater. I just don't like the presents part.

OH RIGHT I WATCHED THE X-MEN MOVIES! They're horrible. The first one put me to sleep; it had the worst fight choreography ever. The second one had plot holes through which you could have flown a whole armada of spaceships, and the third one--idk, actually, I think I liked the third one best. Which probably makes me the only person on the planet who liked the third one best, but idk. It had the most perks. It was still horrible.

In which I talk more about the X-men movies. Also, spoilers. )

I also watched Quantum of Solace, which was alright. Daniel Craig's Bond is a dick, but I think that's true to the character. I want more gadgets, though. Pierce Brosnan always had all those shiny gadgets. Invisible car! Daniel Craig's Bond needs an invisible car.

AND NOW I WILL STOP TALKING AND GO TO BED. I don't know where all of that came from. I was really just gonna talk about my Cas muse. Oh, well. How is everyone?

I doodled human!Ten sleeping on his couch. If you want to see, go here.

I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] tli about soundtracks earlier, which reminded me of the PotC soundtrack. I went to find it, and it's playing now. Man, I love that soundtrack. So beautifully cheesy. <3 Pirates is still such a brilliant movie. The first. I don't mind the 2nd and the 3rd, but they're not as--pure, is probably the word I'm looking for. Not as pure as the first one. They feel more deliberate. The first one is just unadulterated awesomesauce.

Speaking of music, if you like Eric Clapton, go watch this YouTube video--or watch the embedded ) version. It's a live recording of I Shot The Sheriff, with a brilliant guitar solo. No matter where my taste in music goes, I don't think I'll ever dislike Clapton. He's kind of a genius.

I picked up my American $$$ today, and went into uni to print a giant stack of confirmation emails. Short of packing, I'm all ready to leave. Is it can be Monday now?

*wave* Hello everyone

teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([actor] roth looking up)
HELLO LIVEJOURNAL. I LIVE.

God, I seem to be saying that a lot lately. I don't know what's up. Or, well, I do. I miss having a fandom. I miss having a fandom. I mean, yes, there's Who, but there hasn't been any new canon in forever, and somehow, Who has become more a role play thing for me. I love futzing around with the characters, and I still adore the show to itty bitty tiny little pieces, but it's not really a fandom in which I want to write or read fic or get involved in discussions. Especially not right now during the super-wanky summer hiatus. I have need of a new fandom, something I can get excited about and that can inspire me to write one or two 12,000 words stories. But there's NOTHING. No awesome new shows, no awesome old shows that I haven't watched already. *pokes the ether* C'mon, universe. Make a new fandom show up. Or I will end up getting into SPN.

Nothing new on my part. Still working (LAST WEEK THANK GOD), and I'm starting to miss England. Time to go back, methinks. Even if it's only for a couple of weeks, because I'll be off to the States on Aug 31. THE UNITED FUCKING STATES OF AMERICA. I haven't been since 2001. I hadn't realized how much I miss it until I booked the flight and was all I CAN GO RIGHT NOW Y/Y?. Lol, I'm a dork.

There may not be any internet at the flat when I get back to the UK. There were some fuck-ups with the BT landline, and unless I can get O2 to switch the connection to the new landline within the week, I won't have the 'nets at the flat in England. SO DAMN ANNOYING. I asked the O2 lady if my BT landline was connected and working, and she was all, WHY SHORE NO PROBLEM. Right, lady. Not so much. O2 had better switch that connection really quickly, or there will be geek-rage. Geek-without-internet-rage.

Who canon is the most bizarre, strange and wonderful thing ever. From the Doctor Who Wiki:

Gallifrey was duplicated eight times, both to confound its enemies and as a place of refuge. Gallifrey was still destroyed by Faction Paradox during the Second War in Heaven. It was recreated and then destroyed a second time by the Doctor in the Last Great Time War.

WTF Who canon. Make up your mind. Doctor: "Gallifrey was destroyed." -- Master: "What, again?"

And the description of Gallifreyan landscape . . . from the planet's surface, it boasted an orange sky and trees with silver leaves. These reflected the morning sunlight, making it look like the forests were on fire. There were also green forests, golden fields and red deserts. AND THERE WAS A GIANT WHITE RABBIT. NORLY.

Still, reading about Gallifrey still always makes me go all nostalgic. Did I mention that I was a dork?

I'm joining Ars Arcanum with my canon!Doctor muse [personal profile] or_timelords. Let's see if this will work out better than last time I tried joining a comm. >_>
