... as indicated in the title?

I'm so fed up with Tumblr, so I'm trying a renewed attempt at returning to LJ. :D?

Who's still active here? My reading list has a few recent updates, so it doesn't seem to be a complete wasteland ... what is everyone up to?

Gallifreyan Script, Thanksgiving, Yuletide

teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. (Default)
Long time no update. I'm still around. I've been playing with tumblr a lot--I know, I know. I'm joining the legions abandoning LJ for more hipster-y pastures. I should try to update LJ more, but I don't really have a specific fandom at the moment, so I'm sort of disconnected from LJ, since I don't have anything to write fic for. I would vid, but I don't have my desktop PC with me at the moment. Also, that PC needs upgrading so badly. Anyway, this is why I'm playing with tumblr, not LJ. I have little fannish content to offer at the moment.

That said, I did make some Gallifreyan script images. Greencrook on tumblr came up with a Gallifreyan dictionary, and it's a lot of fun to take the basics that she's developed and fill in the blanks to create images of quotes.

Three quote images under the cut. )

Other than that, I'm still trying to find a job. Nothing new on that front. I don't know if I'm going to do Christmas cards this year. If anyone wants to send me a card, don't send it to the Southampton address; I don't live there anymore. Send it to my old address in Germany--if you don't know it, ping me and I'll let you know.

Yuletide! Anyone doing Yuletide on the reading list? I'm torn. I did it last year, and had a lot of fun writing for it, but the fic I received was not really what I'd been hoping for. And I don't really have any fandoms I'd want to request for or am desperate to read fic in, this year. The fic I wrote last year was based on something that I had sitting on my hard-drive, half-written--I don't have anything like that this year, so I'd have to start from scratch. But it's only 1,000 words. I could probably do 1,000 words? And I'd love to be forced to write something. Torn! I will decide eventually.

I will have a Jasper on Thanksgiving. :3 We found a cheap flight, so she's coming over from the morning of the 24th until the afternoon of the 27th. It'll be her, [personal profile] earlwyn, [ profile] hobbits_feet and myself. There won't be turkey, but there will be chicken. And a fuck-ton of other food. And probably midori, because we're sad, sad fangirls. I'm looking forward to it.

So. How is everyone?

Random post-deadline ramble

Handed in my FMP yesterday. I think it's good. I think it's possibly the best of the course this year. But fuck am I glad it's done with. I have two more written things to complete till Tuesday, and a Q&A session to attend on Wednesday, and then I'm done with uni. Huh.

I will get around to filling at least a couple of the prompts you guys left me the other day. I've just been really crazily busy. I haven't even gotten around yet to watching Exile.

Here's a cute interview with David and Catherine about Much Ado. It's got a cute picture, too. I also just bought this. Someone tell me to stop spending money.

Speaking of money, I just remembered that the fundraising people I worked for a while ago still owe me my holiday pay. I will have to chase them down. Will also have to chase down a couple of FMP people for money. Why is it that you always have to chase people down if you want money from them? Stupid question, I know, but still. It gets tiresome.

This is a very random post. It needs more pictures. This is the first thing you get from Google images if you type in "random". Anyone know what it is? I have no clue.

ETA: Oh. I think it's primes. Is it primes?

I'm off to London to pick up Jasper, and will then be in Germany over the weekend. Jasper's staying till the 18th, so I might be sparse. Don't break the internets while I'm gone! ;)

(I'm only taking the netbook to Germany. Four days on the netbook. I'll be fine, right? Right??)

That was sort of unexpected.

Gay couples allowed to file green card applications.

I. What. Wait. When did that happen? I mean, DOMA isn't revoked yet, but . . . this might go like the gay marriage law in California did, but then, it might not. I might be eligible to apply for a green card. I. What.

I'll just go and read that article again now.

I put up an offer of up to two pairs of TARDIS wristwarmers at [ profile] help_japan. Go bid on them! You know you want an awesome pair of TARDIS wristwarmers. :D?

Here's the link to the offer. It comes with pictures!

-- or [community profile] help_japan on Dreamwidth --

I've been following the updates about this since Friday, mostly on Twitter, and with every new tweet it just sounds scarier and scarier. The reactor meltdown is now apparently underway in Fukushima, or at least that's what the latest reports are tentatively suggesting. If you're on Twitter and like to keep up with the latest, George Takei has been tweeting basically constantly since Friday--news footage, donation links and phone numbers, general information.

[personal profile] azuire has a post on her Dreamwidth with a lot of information, donation links and general updates. [ profile] honorh, whom I don't know beyond recognizing the handle, but who, I think, is friends with a number of people in my network, is presently reported missing. Her friends--especially [ profile] wendymr, who is posting updates about [ profile] honorh's status here--are encouraging people to send the $2.99 LJ "Help Japan" v-gift to her profile to show support.

I don't know what I'll be able to contribute. I'm pretty skint at the moment, and also pretty short on time, both due to my final uni project, so donations or writing fic for [community profile] help_japan would be difficult for me. I might offer to knit three or four pairs of these. I have a ton of blue yarn left from my sweater project, and I wouldn't need a lot of black and white yarn, so it wouldn't cost me too much to make a few of these.

ETA Sunday night: [ profile] honorh made it to a shelter. She's alright. Updates here.

International Women's Day~

teyla: Scully looking smug under a drawn lightbulb, captioned brains. ([xf] scully brains)
And now, for what is not a rant about uni colleagues--international women's day! Which was yesterday, in my time zone, but who's keeping tabs. I've seen a lot of great posts on the reading list, seen the M-and-Bond video posted about three or four times--it made me like Craig even more, as Bond, because I doubt Brosnan would have made this work as well--and was once again reminded that no, being vocal about feminist issues is not being silly or making a big problem out of something that isn't, in fact, a problem. (I don't think that. Usually. But if you're always getting singled out and patted on the head for being the adorable feminist lesbian, you do now and again wonder if you are actually being as unreasonable as people make you out to be. And that even though I'm not even an activist. I just speak my mind now and again.)

Anyway. I had a bit of a frustrating international women's day--see the previous post--but I'm hoping tomorrow will be better. I am going to a tiny middle-of-nowhere town with [ profile] earlwyn to look at the teddy bear of a polar explorer from [ profile] earlwyn's polar explorer fandom. (It's Titus. I even remembered the guy's name this time.) I'm getting kind of swamped with uni things here at the moment, so getting out of town for a day will be pleasant.

How's everyone? Sorry for not really being around; as I said. Life was keeping me busy.
teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([dw] master asking for it)
Dear A.,

there are so many things that are wrong with you; if I were to list them all, I'd be here all week. So I'm just going to point out the few things that you keep doing that make me want to take a hit out on you.

I've not even started to cover all the things I'd like you to change about who you are, but these are the basics, and these are the things that are sabotaging what could have been a fun project. Please take them into consideration next time you feel like being a dick, and don't be a dick.

No love,

I don't usually post meme-type things, but this one amused me.

You are the Seventh Doctor
Description. )

How did Ace die horribly? As far as I remember, Seven took her to Gallifrey and got her enrolled at the Prydonian Academy. Oh well. If she stayed on Gallifrey, I'm sure she died horribly eventually.

I have decided I want to knit this. To this purpose, I bought some knitting needles, some tapestry needles and some yarn today. (I bought blue yarn because the red yarn the pattern wants me to use costs £5 a ball, and I'd need 10 balls. The yarn I bought, I got the same amount of yarn for £7.50. Be awed by my bargain hunting skills.)

Anyway, I'll see how that will go. I've bought all the yarn, so I should have an incentive to actually finish this. I do like the eyelet pattern. I knitted a hat that used it; it looks pretty.

In other news, no news. I've been watching Burn Notice and can't quite decide if I like it. Fiona is awesome. I also acquired the new SPN episode, but I can't get myself to watch it. I want Robocop Sam back. Right now, it feels like they're just rehashing the same emotional arc they based their last four seasons on. But then, it's SPN, so I probably shouldn't be expecting anything else.

I win.

Today, we officially scrapped pretentious-art-guy's script, on our tutors' recommendation. Hah. Thank you, universe, for the ego boost.

I've also been watching Castle. I really enjoyed the first season. I'm mostly through the second one now, and feel that the show has kind of slipped into the same-old, same-old routine of all procedural cop shows. It's still decent, though. And I want to write kinky humiliation Beckett/Castle PWPs. (How hot is Stana Katic? I think she's the only aspect I remember in a positive way about Quantum of Solace.)

I totally forgot about this.

Last Christmas--that is, Christmas 2009--[ profile] mind_the_tardis came over to visit me. Being the good girlfriend that I am, I gave her a Christmas present. It was a drawing of our two role play muses, human!Ten and human!Master, whose backstories we were developing at the time--and whom we kept using as an excuse to spend hours and hours on end chatting on AIM.

When I was in the US over Christmas this year, I saw the drawing hanging on Jasper's wall and realized that I never shared it on my journal. So I asked her to scan it for me.

Behold, role play fanart. )

If you want to know more about those muses, ask! I love talking about them. :3 Or you can check out [ profile] dreamtofbeing and [ profile] dntfretprecious, the muse journals.

. . . and now I will go write my essay. Promise.

Procrastination Post

Apparently, David Tennant's gonna be a dad. D'awwwwww. I know, I know, paparazzi photos, I shouldn't be linking you. But. Baby! :D

Blah blah baby blah. )

. . . I'm gossiping celeb gossip on my journal. I assure you, it's all in the name of procrastination. I'm supposed to be writing an essay on how New Who and Torchwood connect to and express the global age. I will write it. In a moment.

I don't have too many new things to tell you. I'm busy with uni, trying to figure out how to write the script for my final project, writing essays . . . oh, I got a job. It's a door-to-door fundraising job, lol. I'll find out how long I'll be keeping that job, considering that I'm really bad at any sort of sales pitching or convincing people to give me their money. But I'll get a few shifts out of it, at least, which means that I will be making at least some money soon.

Oh, right, I've also knitted some socks. Knitting socks = not as hard as it looks. Actually, it's ridiculously easy and quick, if you have YouTube tutorials you can follow. I've finished a pair for myself, and am now knitting a second one. Just because I can.

It's also looking more and more likely that I'll be getting married this summer. Probably in Boston. Probably in July or August. I'll keep you guys updated.

. . . random entry is random. I'll be going back to writing my essay now. Feel free to distract me by telling me about how your life's going at the moment. :D?

So I just finished knitting a scarf. It's about 2,40 m long (that's roughly 7' 10'' in weird measurements) and made from really thick wool, so nobody's ever gonna wear it unless they live in Siberia. I had fun knitting it though. And putting little pompoms on the corners of the ends. All neat and tidy.

I started knitting this on Dec 23. That's two weeks, roughly; that's not so bad, is it?

Anyway, I've ordered small, double-pointed knitting needles and this yarn. I want to knit socks. Knitting is so totally my new procrastination method of choice. Knitting while watching silly television shows. A+

In other news, I'm back in the UK. In related news, I can confirm that long-distance relationships still suck. In additional news, I'm doing a studio show tomorrow with my Advanced Studio class, and the group dynamics of this unit are by far the suckiest I've been part of in my three years of uni, so I'll be glad when that's over. In apologetic news, I promise I'll get around to answering those meme prompts in my last post. That game is easier when played orally, because then you have less time to think about the prompts and just have to go with something.

Oh, and a huge thank you to all of you lovely folks who sent me Christmas cards: [ profile] neery, [ profile] chaoskir, [ profile] debris_k, [ profile] svanderslice, [ profile] inlaterdays, [ profile] explodedpen, [personal profile] hibernia1, [profile] wihluta and [personal profile] sirdoctoroftardis. It was so nice to come home to a pile of Christmas mail sitting on my bed waiting for me. :3

And now I will go to bed, since I have to be up early tomorrow. Hope everyone's doing okay~

ETA: Oh, I also watched Misfits. It was . . . weird? I'm not sure if I like it. It was so very Channel 4.

Tarot Cards. And a meme-like thing.

teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([oft] castiel is out of minutes)
I bought a set of Tarot cards. It's Aleister Crowley's Thoth Tarot deck, and I freely admit that I picked this one mostly because a) it was created by a dude called Crowley, b) it had pretty pictures, and c) it came in a pocket deck version that is smaller than the usual card size, and was cheaper than all the others.

Tarot cards. )

Speaking of plots, yesterday, when I was in Roanoke with Jasper and [personal profile] sirdoctoroftardis, I remembered a game I used to play with my sister. One player would name a character, or a pair of characters, an object, and an event/something that has to happen. So, for example, player one could name Dean and Castiel, a bible, and a condom being blown up like a balloon. Player two then has to take the character(s), the object and the event and integrate them in a plot outline. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's fun, and sometimes you come up with really cool plots that will spawn bunnies and make you end up wanting to write fic.

So! Let's play? Character(s), object, event, and I will come up with a plot outline. If I successfully manage to do so, I will give you a character, an object and an event in return. (Only if you want me to. You don't have to reciprocate if you don't feel like it.) If you're lucky, commentfic might happen. Maybe.

Happy Holidays!

I just spent a very relaxing, quiet Christmas Day with Jasper's family. It was nice. I got a lot of presents, which I totally did not expect. Nice presents, too--a shirt and a scarf and two hats and a book and money. Jasper's family is extremely generous. I do like them a lot.

I gave Jasper's mother a resurrection plant, which I think she appreciated. I'm glad. I don't often find gifts that are "right" for people--I'm not good at picking gifts. But I think that one worked well.

I had loads of food, which was delicious, I played with the dogs, which was fun, I started knitting a scarf, which was surprising--I don't usually knit, or enjoy knitting, but Jasper and I ended up in a crafts store, and I was like . . . I shall randomly buy needles and yarn. So now I have 1.5 feet of scarf. I'll see how that'll turn out. Anyway. Very quiet, very pleasant day.

Yuletide went live, too, but I haven't had a chance yet to read my fic. It is Bibleslash! Bibleslash makes me happy. I'll read it either tonight or tomorrow.

And now I will post this, because it's sort of a tradition on my journal by now.

And happy holidays/happy weekend to anyone who doesn't celebrate Christmas.

Oh, and I haven't seen the Doctor Who special yet. I'll watch it . . . later? Or tomorrow. I'll see.

I'm in the US!

I arrived on Saturday, in the evening. Can I just say that Washington Dulles has the dumbest passenger pick-up area layout I've ever seen? Yeah, it's nice in theory to be able to drive up to the door and just have the person you're picking up jump in, but that's not how planes work. They will be late, or early, and if you've got seven of those doors, people will probably never come out of the door their airline says they're supposed to come out of, because more often than not they switch the assigned baggage carousels around. So. Dumb layout is dumb. Get on fixing that, Dulles.

Anyway. That was kind of annoying, but the rest I've done so far was fun! Jasper has cats. :3 And America has doughnuts. And we made this yesterday for dinner and it was tasty. And . . . I think now I need to sign off because we're heading down to Jasper's parents to steal food say hi. I really just wanted to let everyone know that I won't be around much until early January. In case I forget posting about that, have a good Christmas, everyone! :D

  • make PowerPoint for Tuesday's presentation about cultural imperialism.
  • make other group members send me notes about their presentation parts and review them. (How do you get to Year 3 without knowing what cultural imperialism is? Fuck's sake.)
  • finish final project script till Wednesday.
  • do stuff for my two studio classes. Not sure what stuff. Find out what stuff.
  • write and send out Christmas cards. (If you want one, leave your address here.)
  • type up a metric fuckton of tags, both RP related ones as well as mun journal tags.
  • go over emails from lawyers and email them back.
  • stop procrastinating. STOP. PROCRASTINATING.

Is there anyone on my f-list who has one of those brains that don't switch into non-thinking procrastination mode whenever stuff piles up that needs doing? If so, I'd like to rent your brain for two or three days. Please to be emailing me a quote.

In other news, I saw Harry Potter last night. Wasn't bad. I hope they'll spend the entire next movie on Dumbledore/Grindelwald. My HP OTP. :3

I need a new fandom. Come on, guys, there's gotta be something out there. Doctor Who, well, I was never really into the fandom, and now that the show's started sucking, I don't really feel like hanging around. (Entirely subjective, that statement, of course.) But I miss sharing fannish glee and following fandom comms and, well. Just the entire fandom experience. Any recommendations?

Christmas cards! I hope to be sending them out again this year. I know I've been a bit sparse, lately, but I do still love you all and want to send you Christmas cards. Yes.

If you want one, leave me a comment! Comments are screened. If you want my address in return (no obligation at all; it's just that I keep forgetting to comment on other people's Christmas card posts), put a line in the comment and I will PM my address to you. If you think I already have your address, you don't necessarily need to put it into the comment. Just yell ME, or something.

I'm using this icon because it looked Christmassy to me. Idk either.
