So, I'm not a photographer, but I like pointing my camera at things and clicking the button. Sometimes, pretty photos happen. So I've set up a photo tumblr at

timesnap.tumblr.com

I've got about 25 photos queued up to post one per day over the next month, and will then update sporadically whenever I end up taking a photo I think deserves to be put on the blog. So. Follow, if you like? (And if, you know, you have a tumblr).

So . . . apparently tumblr is like crack. Kind of useless, but addictive.

John Smith (my human!Doctor roleplay AU) and Harry Brown (Jasper's human!Master roleplay AU) now have tumblrs, too. J. Smith and H. Brown.

We'll see how long it'll take until I lose interest.

So, I have this thing where I end up on youTube from time to time and think about all the horrible videos I would make if I weren't so lazy. Most of the time, I end up with Lady Gaga songs, because Lady Gaga is fabulous and not enough people make videos of her songs. Things I think should be made include:

1) A Master video to Born This Way. It would contain all incarnations of the Master. Because baby, he was born this way.

2) A 1973 Jesus Christ Superstar Jesus/Judas video to Judas. Because . . . just because.

3) A Ten video to I Like It Rough. No explanation necessary.

4) An Arthur/Eames video to Speechless. Although I don't know how much Inception fandom would appreciate being mocked. (I love Arthur/Eames, and I love the fandom. But . . . well. A bit of mocking has never hurt any fandom.)

But there is nothing I can come up with that would be as beautiful as the video I embedded under the cut. It's Due South. And . . . it's gorgeous.

Bad choices in choosing vidding songs taken to the extreme. )

And there's also this, which I've linked before, but am linking again, because it never gets old.

Random post-deadline ramble

Handed in my FMP yesterday. I think it's good. I think it's possibly the best of the course this year. But fuck am I glad it's done with. I have two more written things to complete till Tuesday, and a Q&A session to attend on Wednesday, and then I'm done with uni. Huh.

I will get around to filling at least a couple of the prompts you guys left me the other day. I've just been really crazily busy. I haven't even gotten around yet to watching Exile.

Here's a cute interview with David and Catherine about Much Ado. It's got a cute picture, too. I also just bought this. Someone tell me to stop spending money.

Speaking of money, I just remembered that the fundraising people I worked for a while ago still owe me my holiday pay. I will have to chase them down. Will also have to chase down a couple of FMP people for money. Why is it that you always have to chase people down if you want money from them? Stupid question, I know, but still. It gets tiresome.

This is a very random post. It needs more pictures. This is the first thing you get from Google images if you type in "random". Anyone know what it is? I have no clue.

ETA: Oh. I think it's primes. Is it primes?

International Women's Day~

teyla: Scully looking smug under a drawn lightbulb, captioned brains. ([xf] scully brains)
And now, for what is not a rant about uni colleagues--international women's day! Which was yesterday, in my time zone, but who's keeping tabs. I've seen a lot of great posts on the reading list, seen the M-and-Bond video posted about three or four times--it made me like Craig even more, as Bond, because I doubt Brosnan would have made this work as well--and was once again reminded that no, being vocal about feminist issues is not being silly or making a big problem out of something that isn't, in fact, a problem. (I don't think that. Usually. But if you're always getting singled out and patted on the head for being the adorable feminist lesbian, you do now and again wonder if you are actually being as unreasonable as people make you out to be. And that even though I'm not even an activist. I just speak my mind now and again.)

Anyway. I had a bit of a frustrating international women's day--see the previous post--but I'm hoping tomorrow will be better. I am going to a tiny middle-of-nowhere town with [livejournal.com profile] earlwyn to look at the teddy bear of a polar explorer from [livejournal.com profile] earlwyn's polar explorer fandom. (It's Titus. I even remembered the guy's name this time.) I'm getting kind of swamped with uni things here at the moment, so getting out of town for a day will be pleasant.

How's everyone? Sorry for not really being around; as I said. Life was keeping me busy.

Things you didn't know about me.

I don't usually post meme-type things, but this one amused me.

You are the Seventh Doctor
Description. )

How did Ace die horribly? As far as I remember, Seven took her to Gallifrey and got her enrolled at the Prydonian Academy. Oh well. If she stayed on Gallifrey, I'm sure she died horribly eventually.

I have decided I want to knit this. To this purpose, I bought some knitting needles, some tapestry needles and some yarn today. (I bought blue yarn because the red yarn the pattern wants me to use costs £5 a ball, and I'd need 10 balls. The yarn I bought, I got the same amount of yarn for £7.50. Be awed by my bargain hunting skills.)

Anyway, I'll see how that will go. I've bought all the yarn, so I should have an incentive to actually finish this. I do like the eyelet pattern. I knitted a hat that used it; it looks pretty.

In other news, no news. I've been watching Burn Notice and can't quite decide if I like it. Fiona is awesome. I also acquired the new SPN episode, but I can't get myself to watch it. I want Robocop Sam back. Right now, it feels like they're just rehashing the same emotional arc they based their last four seasons on. But then, it's SPN, so I probably shouldn't be expecting anything else.

I don't usually post on Valentine's Day, but I felt like it today. So . . .

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Meme? Give me a pairing from a fandom I know, and I will try and come up with a Valentine's Day scenario for them. (I say try because I don't know how creative I feel today. I can give it a shot, though!)

Procrastination Post

Apparently, David Tennant's gonna be a dad. D'awwwwww. I know, I know, paparazzi photos, I shouldn't be linking you. But. Baby! :D

Blah blah baby blah. )

. . . I'm gossiping celeb gossip on my journal. I assure you, it's all in the name of procrastination. I'm supposed to be writing an essay on how New Who and Torchwood connect to and express the global age. I will write it. In a moment.

I don't have too many new things to tell you. I'm busy with uni, trying to figure out how to write the script for my final project, writing essays . . . oh, I got a job. It's a door-to-door fundraising job, lol. I'll find out how long I'll be keeping that job, considering that I'm really bad at any sort of sales pitching or convincing people to give me their money. But I'll get a few shifts out of it, at least, which means that I will be making at least some money soon.

Oh, right, I've also knitted some socks. Knitting socks = not as hard as it looks. Actually, it's ridiculously easy and quick, if you have YouTube tutorials you can follow. I've finished a pair for myself, and am now knitting a second one. Just because I can.

It's also looking more and more likely that I'll be getting married this summer. Probably in Boston. Probably in July or August. I'll keep you guys updated.

. . . random entry is random. I'll be going back to writing my essay now. Feel free to distract me by telling me about how your life's going at the moment. :D?

teyla: Ten with a lot of negative space looking off to the side. ([dw] ten bzuh)
So I just finished knitting a scarf. It's about 2,40 m long (that's roughly 7' 10'' in weird measurements) and made from really thick wool, so nobody's ever gonna wear it unless they live in Siberia. I had fun knitting it though. And putting little pompoms on the corners of the ends. All neat and tidy.

I started knitting this on Dec 23. That's two weeks, roughly; that's not so bad, is it?

Anyway, I've ordered small, double-pointed knitting needles and this yarn. I want to knit socks. Knitting is so totally my new procrastination method of choice. Knitting while watching silly television shows. A+

In other news, I'm back in the UK. In related news, I can confirm that long-distance relationships still suck. In additional news, I'm doing a studio show tomorrow with my Advanced Studio class, and the group dynamics of this unit are by far the suckiest I've been part of in my three years of uni, so I'll be glad when that's over. In apologetic news, I promise I'll get around to answering those meme prompts in my last post. That game is easier when played orally, because then you have less time to think about the prompts and just have to go with something.

Oh, and a huge thank you to all of you lovely folks who sent me Christmas cards: [livejournal.com profile] neery, [livejournal.com profile] chaoskir, [livejournal.com profile] debris_k, [livejournal.com profile] svanderslice, [livejournal.com profile] inlaterdays, [livejournal.com profile] explodedpen, [personal profile] hibernia1, [profile] wihluta and [personal profile] sirdoctoroftardis. It was so nice to come home to a pile of Christmas mail sitting on my bed waiting for me. :3

And now I will go to bed, since I have to be up early tomorrow. Hope everyone's doing okay~

ETA: Oh, I also watched Misfits. It was . . . weird? I'm not sure if I like it. It was so very Channel 4.

So I changed my layout on LJ: opens in a new tab. Not sure why; I just felt like it. It's non-fannish! Weeeird.

I remembered [livejournal.com profile] dontwanttogo the other day. Doctor Who rewatch! We managed to get up to Girl in the Fireplace and then stopped. Who's interested in picking that up again? Or, you know, joining in--I've added a few new people to the f-list since then; you're all more than welcome to join. We usually watched an episode in AIM groupchat each Saturday 10 pm GMT--you can check here what time that is where you are. Or you can watch on your own without joining the groupchat and then talk about the episode in a post to the comm. Either works.

Anyone who's interested, please drop me a comment. :)

Plus, have some random snow pictures of my backyard. )

To do list. :|

  • make PowerPoint for Tuesday's presentation about cultural imperialism.
  • make other group members send me notes about their presentation parts and review them. (How do you get to Year 3 without knowing what cultural imperialism is? Fuck's sake.)
  • finish final project script till Wednesday.
  • do stuff for my two studio classes. Not sure what stuff. Find out what stuff.
  • write and send out Christmas cards. (If you want one, leave your address here.)
  • type up a metric fuckton of tags, both RP related ones as well as mun journal tags.
  • go over emails from lawyers and email them back.
  • stop procrastinating. STOP. PROCRASTINATING.

Is there anyone on my f-list who has one of those brains that don't switch into non-thinking procrastination mode whenever stuff piles up that needs doing? If so, I'd like to rent your brain for two or three days. Please to be emailing me a quote.

In other news, I saw Harry Potter last night. Wasn't bad. I hope they'll spend the entire next movie on Dumbledore/Grindelwald. My HP OTP. :3

I need a new fandom. Come on, guys, there's gotta be something out there. Doctor Who, well, I was never really into the fandom, and now that the show's started sucking, I don't really feel like hanging around. (Entirely subjective, that statement, of course.) But I miss sharing fannish glee and following fandom comms and, well. Just the entire fandom experience. Any recommendations?
teyla: Ten with a lot of negative space looking off to the side. ([dw] ten bzuh)
Why hello internet-that-is-not-a-RP-comm. Haven't seen you in a while.

I've come to whine. Internet, I'm sick. My head hurts, my throat hurts, and I feel all tired and blah. Pity me, internet. Get on that.

Some whining, and talking about uni. )

. . . that's all I got. As I said, I came to whine. Have an awesome dog to make up for that.

Random note of debatable importance.

Hi guys. Sorry for being so out of touch. Not that I think you noticed me being out of touch, because I'm always an incorrigible lurker, but. What with the new job and having apped at that RP comm(*), I am failing to keep on top of the f-list. Caught up now, though. \o/

(*)"That RP comm" is The Last Voyages, which you will have heard of if you are involved in RP fandom in any way at all. I am playing a Ray Kowalski and amusing myself by shipping him with a T'Pol. Oh, Ray. Stop going for the distant, competent, completely-out-of-your-league women. I also apped a Christina de Souza and have been waiting for my app approval/dismissal for over three days. Come on, you mod guys. I know that my Christina is, gasp, almost an AU, or at least has a very extensive backstory--but c'mon, she's got barely an hour of canon. I had to make some additional stuff up. Damn you, RP fandom, and your ridiculous and irrational aversion to AUs.

And then there's this.

Click for bigger. And then tell me if you recognize him. (Most of you have probably already seen this, but.)

I HAVE A JOB THAT GIVES ME FREE COFFEE WHENEVER I WANT IT.

I think that's really all I've ever wanted out of a part-time employment. Free coffee. And a free lunch muffin. Om nom nom. I'm also making over £100 a week--at least at the moment, when there is no uni--which means that my monthly budget just more than doubled. Jobs. Are nice.

Watch me get fired after my first week because I'm going to have to tell them that I have a pre-booked States-side holiday from Dec 11 until Jan 2. >_>

Also, I'm getting old. I woke up this morning feeling like utter crap. As in, seriously. I was dizzy and nauseous and little black spots kept dancing across my vision. NO MORE ROLE PLAYING UNTIL 5:30 AM WHEN I HAVE TO GET UP AT 9. She said and rp'ed until 6 instead. (The utter-crap-feeling may have partially been time-of-the-month induced, though. And I'm feeling fine now; was actually feeling fine by the time I arrived at work. Getting up in the morning. Is hard.)

I have nothing of interest to share? Except this. OMG IT IS FULL OF BABY ANIMAL PICTURES. D'awwww.

(And a note to Mr Gaiman. Dear Mr Gaiman, I appreciate you as a decent writer, exceptional blogger and knowledgeable internet-user, as well as a fellow Who geek. In that sense, please don't take it the wrong way if I tell you that you spelling Doctor Who as Dr Who makes me want to stab puppies. Sincerely and all of that, someone who is only watching the next series because it's got a Gaiman episode.)

Also, [livejournal.com profile] wihluta is here, and we had Ethiopian food and crepes and went shopping and watched due South and White Collar and original Trek and talked a lot about fandom. And will probably talk about fandom some more, once I am done writing this entry. ;)

Hello livejournal. I am still alive. Still working. Only 10 more working days to get through, including today. Wooh!

Bought my ticket for Christmas. I will be in the US, Washington DC area, from December 11 until January 2. I'm not flying via New York this time, sadly (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] onceforluck!), but directly into DC. I am still thinking about whether or not to buy tickets for September. The decision, it is a hard one.

I've also been rereading Sherlock Holmes short stories, and my brain insists I should write a Holmes/Who crossover, written in Sherlock Holmes short story style with Watson narrating, where Ten visits Holmes to consult him on a case.

Hello livejournal! First of all, thanks to everyone who congratulated me on my birthday, sent me v-gifts, or was aware that it was my birthday and thought about maybe dropping a line but ended up not getting around to it. (That's not me quipping, that's me being absolutely sincere. I'm always in the latter category, when it comes to remembering birthdays.)

I'm 24! . . . feels a lot like being 23. I spent the day with the family, hanging out and having cake and relaxing. It was very enjoyable. And I got presents, which was nice.

I've also started a job. )

There's not much else that's new. Germany's playing against Ghana tonight--soccer--and if they lose, the world cup will be over for them. That would make me a bit sad, but it would also amuse me. Because I'm a bad person. I want some complete outsider to win the cup. Like, say, Uruguay. That would be awesome.

So, how is everyone?

Doctor/Master Poll!

  • Feb. 20th, 2010 at 9:06 PM
teyla: Mary Morstan from Sherlock giving a thumbs-up. ([dw] d/m bad romance)
Doctor Who is a wonderful fandom, because it has almost no canon. Or at least no consistent canon. The further you go back, the fuzzier the details become. Doctor/Master, being a pairing that encompasses all of canon, from the very pre-TV-show beginnings to End of Time Part 2, is therefore a very flexible pairing--every fan has their own theories about what the early years of Doctor/Master looked like. So I decided a poll was in order.

Tell me all about what you think happened in the early years at the Prydonian Academy. The poll asks some basic questions, but if you want to elaborate in a comment, you are more than welcome to do so. Have fun!
