teyla: Malcolm Tucker in front of a Sun headline spelling out 'Silly Tucker'. Malcolm is obscuring the T. ([ttoi] silly tucker)

The Ultimate Malcolm and Jamie Novel

I finished my fiiiiiiiiiiiiic. :D :D :D

51,256 words. It's in beta now (poor [personal profile] topaz_eyes and [personal profile] neery). I can't wait to post. I've never been this excited about a fic. I got up at 6:30 every day the past couple of weeks so I'd be able to write for an hour before work. THAT'S HOW EXCITED I AM. :D

I will make another post later with some other updates (my new job, the zoo, that sort of thing) but I feel like finishing this fic deserves its own post. Longest fic I've ever written! :D

Look at my research post; it's taken on terrifying dimensions since I posted it.

I'm thinking about posting in chapters. There are eight chapters of roughly six- to eight thousand words, and I could post them in weekly installments. That's still a sizeable amount of words per week, and I might get some more traction in this tiny, tiny fandom (which is mainly on tumblr, sadly enough) if I drag out the posting process a little. I don't feel too bad about it when I've got the fic already finished. At least I can guarantee folks that it will be completed.

So, yeah. Watch this space! I'll definitely post a link here, too.

Although I have not had time to get The Thick of It yet (I know...I know), I will definitely read your fic! *looks at her empty files for projects, sighs*

Okay, thank you for reassuring me :) Though I am good with reading fic where I don't know the canon as a general rule :)

Quick aside before I get to the meat of your comment: Icon Love!

Oh, you are so lucky you can do that! My imagination (bloody thing) is usually so interested in doing plotting via sex (or characterisation via sex, take your pick) that I have a hard time focussing on the sex even in PWPs.

That is precisely the reason why I find it easier to write PWP in fandoms I'm only peripherally familiar with, or in pairings that aren't my usual go-to pairings to write about. If I don't know the source/ the characters all that well, I can't get too distracted by characterization!

Do you know what that tells me? That you, very much unlike me, have a sensible imagination! I fear that my imagination would insist on learning about the canon before writing about it...and things would go downhill from there... See, that's one of the reasons I have joined nonconathon: the length of the fic seems manageable in a month even on my schedule (1000 words minimum), it's sex-focused (my sex scenes are not what they should be yet) and I can offer small closed canons that I am reasonably, but not hugely invested in ;)

I remember teaching myself how to write PWP! I did a series of so-called "Smutty Sunday" fics, where I'd make myself write a PWP in my then-current fandom every Sunday. They were really hard to write, but they made such a difference. Writing PWP is definitely a skill that can be learned. Good luck to you!

Thank you! Now that sounds like an idea! Mind if I sort of adopt it once I am done with this fic? Which, by the way, is coming along nicely. I still have over a month and I can start writing this weekend (thank God for our German bank holidays - few though they are)

Yaaaaaay!

I don't feel too bad about it when I've got the fic already finished. At least I can guarantee folks that it will be completed.

I did this, and I think people actually appreciate it? I mean, I would, as a reader. So, win-win.

I like to think it generates a bit more discussion, since some people then leave comments on every chapter, and the interaction is what I'm looking for, anyway.
